Command Sgt. Maj. Michael S. Riggs

4th Sustainment Brigade

Command Sgt. Maj. Michael S. Riggs enlisted in the United States Army in May 2001 as a unit supply specialist (92Y). He completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia. In 2007, Riggs reclassed to small arms repairman (91F) and attended Advanced Individual Training at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in leadership from North Carolina State University.

During his 24-year career Riggs has served in various leadership positions. His previous assignments include Tobyhanna Army Depot sergeant major; support battalion command sergeant major for 3rd Operational Support Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve J3 sergeant major; maintenance troop sergeant major, Armament Repair Facility NCOIC, maintenance control sergeant and senior armament repairman, 3rd OSG; senior supply sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 82nd Signal Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His deployments include several rotations to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Inherent Resolve and rotations to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Riggs’ military education includes all levels of the Non-Commissioned Officer’s Education System; How the Army Runs Course; Demonstrated Master Logistics; Battalion Pre-Command Course; Special Operations Planners Course; Supervisor Development Course; Joint Military Free Fall Course; Logistic Support to Sensitive Activities Course; Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (High Risk) Enterprise Management Course; Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education II; Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Coordinator Course; Combative Level II; Static Line Jump Master Course; Basic Airborne Course; and various Industry certifications.

Riggs’ awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal with “C” device and oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, Combat Action Badge, Military Free Fall Parachutist Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Driver Badge, German Jump wings, German PT badge and is a recipient of the Samuel Sharpe Award.
