Col. Cameron G. Gallagher, Brigade Commander
4th Combat Aviation Brigade
A native of Miami, Col. Cameron G. Gallagher graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point and commissioned as an aviation officer in 2003.
After attending the Aviation Officer Basic Course and Initial Entry Rotary Wing Training at Fort Rucker, Alabama, Gallagher served as a platoon leader and assistant operations officer with 1st Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, in the Republic of Korea from 2005-2006.
After completing the Aviation Captains Career Course in 2007, Gallagher received orders to the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom IX and served as a task force assistant operations officer and later assumed command of D Company, 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, Task Force No Mercy. Upon redeployment in 2009, he assumed command of B Company, 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, and deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom XI.
Following command, Gallagher served as a small group leader and doctrine developer at the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence for two years. From 2012-2015 he served as an Army Congressional Fellow in the House of Representatives with utilization assignments in both the Office of the Chief of Legislative Liaison and Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller).
From 2016-2017, Gallagher served as operations officer and executive officer for 6th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. Following this assignment, he served as the senior aviation operations trainer on Operations Group’s Eagle Team at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California.
In 2020, he assumed command of the “Iron Dragons,” 1st Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment, Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas, for two and half years. Following graduation from U.S. Army War College in 2023, he served as a joint staff officer at Headquarters, U.S. Special Operations Command at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, for two years.
His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Master Army Aviator Badge and Air Assault Badge.
Gallagher is married with two children.
