Command Sgt. Maj. Ryan D. Dilling

3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team

Command Sgt. Maj. Ryan D. Dilling is a native of Martinsburg, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the United States Army in January 1998 and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He has served in all armor crewman critical positions commensurate with his rank.

Dilling’s assignments include 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Garry Owen, South Korea; 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Benning, Georgia; 1st Battalion, 35th Armor Regiment, Baumholder Germany; United States Army Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Fort Knox, Kentucky; 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, Texas; Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 4th Infantry Division; 1st Battalion, 66th Armor Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado; Tennessee Technological University, 7th Brigade, United States Army Cadet Command; 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division; 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; and Bronco Team, Operations Group, Fort Irwin, California.

Dilling’s deployments include Egypt, Operation Bright Star 99-00; Kosovo, Task Force 2B, United Nations resolution 1244, Multinational Bridge (East); Atlantic Resolve; Operation Assure, Deter and Reinforce. Dilling completed two combat tours in Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom I/II and OIF III/IV.

His military education includes all levels of NCO Professional Development System commensurate with his rank. Dilling graduated in the top 20% of his United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 70 and Maneuver Senior Leader Course, earning placement on the Commandant’s List; Commander and First Sergeant Course; The Inspector General School; Battle Staff; Common Faculty Development-Instructor Course; Small Group Instructor Course; and Instructor Training Course. Dilling graduated from the University of Maryland University College with an Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Science in management studies. He graduated from the University of Texas, El Paso with a master’s degree in leadership studies.

Dilling’s military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with eight oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 10 oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with three silver knots, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Iraqi Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 4, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 6, NATO Medal (Kosovo), Navy Unit Commendation, Presidential Unit Citation with  oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Superior Unit Award, Combat Action Badge, Drivers Badge-Wheel and Driver Badge-Track. Dilling has also been awarded the Army Senior Instructor Badge, Inspector General Badge, German Schutezenschnur (Gold), German Proficiency Badge (Gold) and Cavalry spurs. Additionally, he is a recipient of the Order of Saint George, Black and Bronze Medallion and the Order of Saint Maurice, Legionnaire Medallion.

Dilling is married and has two children.
