Col. J. Clint Tisserand, Brigade Commander

1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team

Col. J. Clint Tisserand assumed command of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, March 13, 2025. He joined the Ivy Raider Brigade after most recently serving as an instructor for the Department of Command Leadership Management at the Army War College, located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

Upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 2002, Tisserand commissioned as an armor officer and began his first assignment at Fort Lewis, Washington, with the 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, of the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. He deployed with this unit to Iraq in late 2003, and again in 2009 as the commander of Bravo Troop. In 2011, Tisserand became an instructor of boxing in the Department of Physical Education at West Point. Following this, he joined the U.S. Army’s 2nd Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany, and served as the regimental planner, 4th Squadron operations officer and the regimental executive officer. During this time, the Regiment executed deterrence missions in Eastern Europe by training with allies and demonstrating operational mobility through road marches from Germany to countries such as Hungary, Romania and Estonia. He then completed a joint assignment as the chief of deployment for the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps located in Istanbul, Turkey. He returned to the United States as the armor colonels assignment officer. After this, he had the honor to serve as the commander for 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington, and was then named G3 for the 7th Infantry Division.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Tisserand also earned the Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab and Air Assault Badge, and is a recipient of the Order of Saint George (Bronze). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from USMA; a Master of Arts in organizational leadership from Chapman University; a Master of Education from the University of Virginia; and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Born at Fort Knox, Kentucky, Tisserand was raised by a steadfast Army family. He is married and has two children.
