Col. Erik C. Oksenvaag, Garrison Commander

Col. Erik Oksenvaag was commissioned as an infantry officer in 2000 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.

Oksenvaag’s key assignments include platoon leader and company executive officer with 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry, at Fort Drum, New York; battalion A/S3 and rifle company commander with 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry, at Baumholder, Germany; battalion and brigade S3 at 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, at Fort Carson, Colo.; battalion commander with 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry, at Fort Bliss, Texas; Maneuver Task Force senior trainer, brigade staff senior trainer and deputy commander and Chief of Staff of the National Training Center and Fort Irwin, California.

His major deployment history includes Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan from 2003-2004 and 2013-2014 and Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2005-2006 and 2008-2009.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Valor device and four oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and the Ranger Tab.

Oksenvaag holds a Master of Science in administration from Central Michigan University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

He is married and has a daughter.
