Command Sgt. Maj. Eduardo Fernandez joined the Army in October 1996 and completed One-Station Unit Training as a Cavalry Scout at Fort Knox, Kentucky. His assignments include Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas; F Troop, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado; A Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry, Conn Barracks, Germany; Cobra Team, National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California; C Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, and Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas; United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas; 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, and 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas; 2nd Battalion, 70th Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas; 3rd Battalion, 362nd Regiment, First Army, Fort Bliss Texas; Joint Task Force Bravo, Honduras.  

He has served in a multitude of duty positions in the Cavalry: Dismount, M2A2 Bradley Driver, Team Leader, Bradley Gunner, Section Leader, Company Master Gunner, Platoon Sergeant, Observer-Controller/Trainer, First Sergeant, Battalion Operations Sergeant, Brigade Operations Sergeant, and Command Sergeant Major.

CSM Fernandez’s military education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Educations System, Class 63 of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, the M2A2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle Master Gunner Course, and various other professional development courses.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (4th Award), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (7th Award), Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (8th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (2nd Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 Campaign Star), Iraqi Campaign Medal (4 Campaign Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4th Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal (3rd Award), Combat Action Badge. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Order of Saint George and the Order of Saint Maurice.
