COL Jayson B. Morgan
Colonel Jayson Morgan enlisted as a 13B Field Artillery Cannon Crew Member and was later commissioned as a Field Artillery Second Lieutenant through Officer Candidate School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas; a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island; a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from the Command and General Staff College, School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
His previous assignments include Marshall Scholar, Fort Leavenworth; Commander of the 4th BN 3rd Security Force Assistance Brigade, Fort Cavazos, Texas (formerly Fort Hood prior to 2023); FDG Deputy Div Chief U.S. Army G-8, Washington, D.C.; Commander of the 5th BN 25th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd BDE 10th MTN DIV, Fort Polk (known as Fort Johson since April 2023), Louisiana; Operations Officer J33/J35 Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.; Observer-Controller-Trainer at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California. He has served in additional key and developmental assignments at the Company and Field Grade level at Fort Cavazos; Fort Riley, Kansas; and Fort Stewart, Georgia.
Col. Morgan’s military education includes the successful completion of the Field Artillery Officer’s Basic and Captain’s Career Courses, College of Naval Command and Staff, School of Advanced Military Studies – Advanced Strategic Leadership Studies Program.
His combat deployments include tours in Afghanistan (2008, 2012-2013) and Iraq (2004-2005, 2007-2008).
His awards include the Bronze Star Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal with “V” device, Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal, Valorous Unit Award (1 OLC), Meritorious Unit Citation, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (2 Bronze Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, NATO Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 3), Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge.
Command Sergeant Major
CSM Matthew S. Richter
CSM Matthew S. Richter enlisted in the Army in 2001 as a 13R (Fire Finder Radar Operator) and attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
CSM Richter has served in all career and key developmental NCO duty positions across various duty locations. He has deployed in support of Operations Desert Spring, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. He most recently served as the 1st Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment (HIMARS) Command Sergeant Major at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. He now serves as the 1st Armored Division DIVARTY Command Sergeant Major.
He has completed all levels of NCOES and is a proud graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 68). In addition, he has attended the SHARP Course, CDR/1SG Course, Master Resiliency Trainer Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, and the Mission Command Digital Master Gunner Course. He is currently enrolled at American Military University where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Homeland Security.
