What services are at Yongsan?
Due to the accelerated closure of Yongsan, many services are relocated to other bases. Learn more about the services below.
Korea is one of the few places in the world where Soldiers conduct combined, joint, and multilateral training in an integrated training environment. Working alongside ROK counterparts, service members stationed in Korea develop friendships that last a lifetime and get a once in a life-time opportunity to explore and experience the Asia-Pacific and all the vibrant destinations it has to offer. #HowIKorea #USArmy (Photo courtesy US Army/ Spc. We engage our host neighbors through comprehensive programs that actively engage the local community, government, media, business, university, school, and military in order to provide public understanding and appreciation of our mission on the peninsula.

As members of the profession of arms, leadership is at the very core of everything we do. As leaders, we must be role models for our Nation and Army. As such, we have a duty to uphold the legacy of service as stewards of our institution. Part of our stewardship is the duty to develop Soldiers, Noncommissioned Officers, and Officers who will lead our Army and Nation into the future. #SquadGoals #GoArmy (Photo Courtesy U.S. Army/ Spc. 2020 marks the 70th year of the KATUSA program which was established to augment the U.S. Army with Korean Army Soldiers to increase the combined defense capability on the peninsula.
Since 1950, KATUSAs and American Soldiers have stood shoulder to shoulder through the toughest, most realistic training in the world to prepare to execute their war-time mission set if called upon to “Fight Tonight”.
About 3,600 Koreans earn the privilege to serve with the U.S. Army as a Korean Augmentation to the United States Army, or KATUSA.These KATUSAs serve alongside U.S. Army Soldiers and are functionally part of the U.S. Army — from morning physical training, to tactical training, to the rest of the workday, they serve shoulder to shoulder with their allies.
Yongsan has a rich cultural history dating back to the early 1900s.
With modern facilieies and new amentities on the peninsula, U.S. military personnel continue to bring their families to South Korea and extend their assignments once here.

In accordance with USFK guidance [the Yongsan Relocation Plan (YRP) and Land Partnership Plan (LPP], the USAG Yongsan-Casey mission supports the larger transformation effort in Korea by initiating transformation and base closures, vacating and closing operations of non-enduring camps at Areas I and II, and the relocation of Service Members from installations north of Seoul to two enduring hubs in the Central and Southern areas.
In accordance with the USFK plan, the U.S. Army is reducing its footprint from 80 sites to 41. The USAG Yongson-Casey footprint consists of 33 of these sites spanning 78 miles from the northern training areas to Yongin.
