Civil Affairs Civil Affairs Soldiers are the field commander's link to the civil authorities in his area of operations. With specialists in every area of the government, they can assist a host government meet its people's needs and maintain a stable and viable civil administration.

Civil Affairs units help military commanders by working with civil authorities and civilian populations in the commander’s area of operations to lessen the impact of military operations on them during peace, contingency operations and declared war. Civil Affairs forces support activities of both conventional and special operations forces, and are capable of assisting and supporting the civil administration in the area of operations.

Civil Affairs specialists can quickly and systematically identify critical requirements needed by local citizens in war or disaster situations. They can also locate civil resources to support military operations, help minimize civilian interference with operations, support national assistance activities, plan and execute non-combatant evacuation, support counter-drug operations, and establish and maintain liaison or dialogue with civilian aid agencies and civilian commercial and private organizations.

Psychological OperationsBorn from counterpropaganda and resistance efforts during World War II, modern-day Psychological Operations, or PSYOP, Soldiers master the power of influence to shape the global security environment, impact regional stability, and achieve United States national security goals. To ensure the security of the homeland and of Americans abroad, PSYOP forces inspire our allies and motivate foreign populations while exploiting vulnerabilities of foreign state and non-state adversaries who might otherwise believe their actions are without consequence.

As the Department of Defense’s only influence capability, PSYOP forces support commanders, U.S. ambassadors, allies, alliance and coalition partners, and other governmental agencies. PSYOP Soldiers typically operate in small, autonomous teams or with other special operations forces to develop relationships with a country’s civilian population, government figures, military, and law enforcement agencies. Experts at psychological warfare specialize in unconventional capabilities, cultural expertise, language proficiency, military deception, and advanced communications techniques across all forms of media. PSYOP Soldiers are continuously deploying globally to conduct psychological warfare as a critical component of the United States Special Operations Command.

SOARThe 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment’s mission is to organize, equip, train, resource and employ Army special operations aviation forces worldwide in support of contingency missions and combatant commanders. Known as Night Stalkers, these Soldiers are recognized for their proficiency in nighttime operations. They are highly trained and ready to accomplish the very toughest missions in all environments, anywhere in the world, day or night, with unparalleled precision. They employ highly modified Chinook, Black Hawk and assault and attack configurations of Little Bird helicopters.

 Soldiers of the 160th have been actively and continuously engaged in the combat operations since October 2001. Today, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment continues a sustained and active forward presence in the U.S. Central Command area of operations at multiple locations in support of operations Enduring Freedom. Our crews also provide support to U.S. Southern, Pacific, Africa, and European commands.
