
LTC Matthew B. Schade
Battalion Commander
LTC Matthew B. Schade is a native of Basking Ridge, NJ. Upon graduation from high school, Matt attended Norwich University on an Army ROTC Scholarship, and graduated in 2005 with a BA in History and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps.
2LT Schade’s first assignment was to the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, where he served for 6 years as a Forward Support Company (FSC) Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Commander; deploying twice to Iraq and departing as a Captain.
Upon completion of company command and departure from Fort Drum, CPT Schade attended the Logistics Captains Career Course (LOG C3) at Fort Lee, VA, then remained there for three additional years as a Quartermaster Basic Officer Leader’s Course (BOLC) Instructor.
In 2015, CPT Schade was selected for promotion to Major and attended the Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth where he completed both Intermediate Level Education (ILE) and earned a Masters of Military Art and Science from the School of Advanced Military Studies.
MAJ Schade served as a plans officer with the 2nd Infantry Division in Camp Red Cloud, South Korea during the height of international tensions in 2017-18. He went on to serve in the 4th Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade (Fort Carson, CO) where he played a leading role in the Border Support Sustainment Task Force. He then served as the Support Operations Officer for Army Field Support Battalion-Carson where his team completed the integration of the Fort Carson Logistics Readiness Center, supported the national response to COVID-19, and supported numerous brigade rotations at the Joint Readiness Training Center and National Training Center.
Most recently, LTC Schade served as commander of Bravo Company, 6th Battalion, 4th Security Force Assistance Brigade, where he led 18 Logistics Advisors until his activation for battalion command.

CSM John M. Kreifels
Battalion Command Sergeant Major
Command Sergeant Major John M. Kreifels is a native of Nebraska City, Nebraska. He enlisted in the Army in June 2003, as a Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic.
His assignments include Headquarter and Headquarter Company and Echo Company, 3d Ranger Battalion, 75TH Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, GA; Headquarters and Headquarter Company,75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, GA; Echo Company, 2D Ranger Battalion, 75TH Ranger Regiment, Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA. Headquarter and Headquarter Company, 10TH Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY. He has deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan for combat operations.
CSM Kreifels has served in multiple leadership positions including, Recovery NCOIC, Senior Mechanic, Maintenance Control Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, G4 Maintenance Sergeant Major, J4 CSM and G3 Operations Sergeant Major.
CSM Kreifels has attended Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, and Sergeants Major Academy (Class 69). He is a graduate of Airborne, Ranger, Jumpmaster, and Master Resilience Courses. He has earned a Master’s degree in Strategic Leadership from the University of Charleston.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (3d award), Meritorious Service Medal (2d award), the Joint Army Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (3d award), the Army Achievement Medal (3d award), the Master Parachutist Badge, Mechanic/Drivers Badge, and Combat Action Badge. He is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice and The Ordnance Order of Samuel Sharpe.
