Command Sgt. Maj. Dexter L. Nevels, 1st Battalion, 13th Aviation Regiment
Command Sergeant Major. Dexter L. Nevels is a native of Akron, Ohio. He enlisted in the United States Army in March 2005. Upon completion of Advanced Individual Training at Fort Rucker, Alabama, he was awarded the occupational specialty of 15P, Aviation Operations Specialist.
His assignments include 4th Aviation Brigade at Hanau, Germany; 3-158th Aviation Regiment at Katterbach, Germany; 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade at Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia; U.S. Army Priority Air Transport - European Flight Detachment at Ramstein Air Base, Germany; Special Operations Aviation Training Battalion at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; 2-160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command at Fort Liberty, North Carolina; 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade at Kunsan Air Base, Korea; U.S. Army Priority Air Transport Command at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland; The U.S. Army Aviation Brigade, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; and most recently served as the Brigade Operations Sergeant Major for 164th Theater Airfield Operations Group, Fort Rucker, Alabama.
He is a graduate of all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System (NCOPDS). He is also a graduate of the Joint Air Operations Command and Control Course, the Equal Opportunity Advisor Course, the Master Resiliency Facilitator Course, the Master Resiliency Trainer Course, the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Course, the Modern Army Combatives Program Basic Course, the Joint Firepower Course, the Mission Command Digital Master Gunner Course, and the Battle Staff NCO Course. CSM Nevels is an alumnus of Class 74 United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA). He holds a Master’s degree in Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
CSM Nevels has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (five Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters), the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal (sixth award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral five), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (with numeral five), the NATO Medal, the Master Aviation Badge, the German Marksmanship Badge (Silver Award) and a recipient of the Order of Saint Michael (Bronze Award).
