• In 1943 PRTA was commissioned as a Naval Base and named after Rear Admiral Charles W. Parks, CEC, USN.

  • In 1946, the Secretary of the Navy disestablished the facility. From 1946 to 1951, the Navy leased the land to the County of Alameda for use as a rehabilitation center.

  • From 1951 until 1969 the U.S. Air Force used PRFTA before the installation was transferred back to the Army in a standby status under the Sixth Army, Presidio of San Francisco. In 1965, the installations was declared excess except for 1,600 acres retained for The National Guard and Navy use. 

  • In 1980, it was redesignated as a semi-active installation and renamed Parks Reserve Forces Training Area. In 1992, it became a sub-installation of Fort Lewis, and in 1993 Command and Control moved from FORCSCOM to Army Reserve Command in Atlanta, Georgia and PRFTA became a direct-reporting installation of Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.

  • In 2005 PRFTA became a sub-installation for United States Army Garrison Fort Hunter Liggett supporting Active Army, Army Reserve, National Guard, Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, and Army ROTC.
