About

Palisades, Jan 2020.jpgU.S. Army Garrison Fort Hunter Liggett consists of two distinct installations -

Fort Hunter Liggett (FHL) in the mountains of central California, and its sub-installation, Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (PRFTA) in the San Francisco Bay area - providing critical training areas, ranges and facilities to support year-round joint, multi-component, and interagency training. Together, these two installations provide unique, diverse and geographically dispersed areas of operation in the northern and central parts of California.

FHL is the largest Army Reserve installation, providing more than 160,000 acres for a year-round training environment that resembles 20 percent of the world’s terrain. It is approximately 134 miles south of the San Jose airport, 81 miles south of the Monterey Regional Airport.

FHL has many support services and resources for military and civilian personnel working and living on post, such as housing, barracks, a commissary and military Exchange, bowling alley, recreational center, sports facility, and more.

The historic Hacienda, designed by Julia Morgan for William Randolph Hearst when he owned much of the property, is located at FHL. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a hotel open to the public. It also has event space for rent. Hotel guests must go through the vetting process to gain post access. The historic Mission San Antonio de Padua, established in 1771, is located right outside of the garrison cantonment area and is accessible via Mission Road, a public-access road with no vetting required. Visit their website for more information: http://missionsanantonio.net/.
