COL Kristin E. Steinbrecher grew up in New Jersey. She graduated from Rutgers University in 2002 and earned her commission in the Air Defense Artillery through the school’s ROTC program. Throughout her career, she has served in a myriad of assignments and locations.

COL Steinbrecher began her career at Suwon Air Base, Korea, serving as a Platoon Leader and later as the Battery Executive Officer with 1-43 ADA (Patriot). She then moved to Fort Bliss, TX, as an Assistant Brigade S3 with the 6th ADA Brigade. Her overseas assignments continued with the J5 team at CJTF-Horn of Africa in Djibouti, where she was a Theater Security Cooperation Planner. Returning to Fort Bliss, she commanded Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 6th ADA Brigade, followed by Alpha Battery, 3-6 ADA (Patriot). She also served as a Military Evaluator with the Army Evaluation Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, and as Plans and Exercise Director at JTF-Bravo in Honduras. Her last company-grade post was as Senior Air Defense Planner with XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, NC.

As a field-grade officer, COL Steinbrecher was the Executive Officer for J3, US Forces–Iraq. She then assumed multiple leadership roles in Germany, including ADAFCO Chief with the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command and Battalion Executive Officer for 5-7 ADA (Patriot). She later returned to Korea as the Active Defense Officer and Deputy Director for CJ38, United States Forces Korea / Combined Forces Command. Her career continued in Washington, DC, where she served as a Military Advisor at the U.S. Department of State, before returning overseas as Battalion Commander for 6-52 ADA (Composite) at Suwon Air Base, Korea. Following battalion command, she became the AIAMD/LTAMDS Action Officer with the Cross Functional Team–AMD at Fort Sill, OK. She was then selected as Director of the Air and Missile Defense Test Directorate, ATEC, at Fort Bliss, TX.

COL Steinbrecher’s military education includes the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic and Captains Career Courses, Airborne School, ADAFCO Course, Command and General Staff College, Joint Forces Staff College, and the United States Army War College. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Rutgers University, a master’s in homeland security from American Military University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. Her decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Joint Commendation Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.
