Colonel Ryan Workman is a native of Evansville, Indiana. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2000 and was commissioned as an Armor Officer.
COL Workman’s first assignment was to 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry at Camp Garry Owen, Korea, where he served as a Scout Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader, and Troop Executive Officer. As a Captain, he was assigned to 3rd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, and later to 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment at Fort Johnson, LA. While there, he served as an Assistant S3, Infantry Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer, and deployed to both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. COL Workman then served as a Small Group Instructor at the Maneuver Captain's Career Course and as the Chief of Current Operations, Human Resources Command G-3 at Fort Knox, KY.
Following the Command and General Staff College, he was assigned to Korea where he served as a G5 Plans Officer in the 2nd Infantry Division, Squadron Operations Officer and Executive Officer in 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry, and the Brigade Executive Officer for 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team. He was then assigned to Combined Forces Command / United States Forces Korea CJ37 as the Training and Readiness Branch Chief and later as the Exercise Branch Chief. COL Workman commanded 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Stewart, GA from June 2018 to June 2020 and deployed the squadron to Poland. Following squadron command, COL Workman returned to Korea and served as the Chief of Plans and then G35 Director for 8th Army. COL Workman took command of U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys in July 2023.
COL Workman holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Arts in International Relations from Webster University and a Master of Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 3OLC, Combat Action Badge and Air Assault Badge.
COL Workman is married to his wife Jihwa of Busan, Korea. They are the proud parents of their daughter, Kara.
