Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Salvador G. Garcia is a native of Sonora, Mexico and was raised in Las Vegas, NV. He began his career in the U.S. Army on 18 October 2000 as an Automated Logistics Specialist (92A). He completed Basic Combat Training at Ft. Jackson, SC, and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Gregg-Adams, VA.
CSM Garcia has served in numerous positions such as the SAMS-1 NCO for HHC, 82nd Signal BN, Fort Liberty, NC, PLL NCOIC for B Battery, 2/43 ADA BN, Fort Bliss, TX, SAMS-E NCOIC F CO. FSC, 3/509 IN BN, SSA NCOIC for A CO, 725th BSB, 4/25th IN BDE, Fort Richardson, AK, SSA PLT SGT for A CO, 307th BSB, First Sergeant for HHC 307th BSB, First Sergeant for G CO FSC, 1/504th IN BN, 1st BCT, 82nd ABN DIV, Fort Liberty, NC, First Sergeant for S&D Company and SPO NCOIC for HHD, Group Support Battalion, 1st SFG (ABN), JBLM, WA, SPO SGM, Division Sustainment Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Fort Bliss, TX, HHBN CSM for Southern European Task Force Africa, (SETAF-AF) Vicenza, Italy, and CSM for 6th BN, 3rd SFAB, Fort Cavazos, TX. He has two deployments to Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and three to Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).
CSM Garcia’s military education includes all Primary Military Education and a graduate of the United States Army Sergeant Majors Academy Class 70, Basic Airborne School, ULLS-S4 Course, Unit Movement Officer Course (UMO), Jumpmaster School, Contracting Officer Course, Combative Level I, II, Sexual Harassment Assault Responsive and Prevention Course (SHARP), Support Operation Phase I, II Course, Battle Staff Course, Common Facilitator Development Instructor Course, BN and BDE Pre Command Course, and Garrison Pre-Command Course. CSM Garcia’s civilian education includes an Associate of Arts Degree from American Military University and a bachelor’s in leadership development from the Command and General Staff College. Presently, he is enrolled in a master’s in management with a focus in Organizational Leadership from Excelsior College.
CSM Garcia’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters (OLC), Army Commendation Medal (7OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), Good Conduct Medal with seven Knots, National Defense Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon Roman Numeral five, Combat Action Badge, Drivers Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and Canadian, German, Latvian, Chilean and Brazilian Parachutist Wings. He is also a member of the Prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and is a recipient of the Quartermaster Order of St. Martin Medal.
CSM Garcia is married to his wife, Laura, and has two sons, Jovann and Daniel.
