Col. Kevin G. Werry
Colonel Kevin G. Werry, Jr. hails from the rodeo capital of Texas, Mesquite. He graduated as salutatorian from West Mesquite High School in 1998 and attended the University of North Texas, graduating with a BA in 2002. COL Werry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2002 and was commissioned as an Air Defender in 2003 via OCS.
COL Werry's first unit of assignment was 5-7 ADA in Hanau, Germany, where he served as a platoon leader and executive officer. Following his assignment to Germany, COL Werry volunteered to serve on a military advisor team in Iraq as the executive officer of 2-11/3 Military Transition Team in Bi'aj, Iraq. COL Werry then returned to Germany and commanded C/5-7 ADA in Kaiserslautern, GE. Following command, COL Werry was selected for the Army's Joint Staff Fellowship in Washington, DC, and served in the Joint Operations Directorate (AFRICOM/Global Force Management), J33, and the Air and Missile Defense Directorate, G-3/5/7.
Following his time in the fellowship program, COL Werry went on to Fort Bragg, where he served as the operations officer for 3-4 ADA battalion and the 108th ADA brigade. COL Werry followed up his assignment to Fort Bragg with an assignment to Human Resources Command (HRC) where he served as the ADA field grade assignments officer and later as the ADA Colonel's management officer in HRC's Senior Leader Division in Washington, DC. COL Werry was then selected to command 4-5 ADA (the legendary Renegades), Fort Cavazos, TX, and was forward deployed with his unit to Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia. In COL Werry's last assignment, he served as the Chief of the Elite Constellation Operational Planning Group in Joint Staff J7, Joint Training Division.
COL Werry has three graduate degrees. A Master of Arts from Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, in Security Studies, a Master of Arts in Public Policy from Georgetown University, and a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
COL Werry's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Joint Service Meritorious Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (6 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Joint Staff Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Badge.
