Col. Brian D. Gilbert, Chief of Staff

4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson

Col. Brian D. Gilbert is a native of Idaho and commissioned as a second lieutenant from the University of Idaho.

As an armor officer, his first assignment was with 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He served in numerous command and staff positions including tank platoon leader, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment; scout platoon leader, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment; Cavalry Troop executive officer, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment; assistant battalion operations officer, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division; tank company commander, 3rd Brigade, 3rd ID; Armor Captains Career Course instructor; aide-de-camp, executive officer to the commanding general, U.S. Army Recruiting Command; squadron operations officer, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division; battalion executive officer, 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 4th Inf. Div.; executive officer to the commanding general, 4th Inf. Div.; squadron commander, 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division; division operations officer, 1st Infantry Division; and special assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR)/U.S. European Command (EUCOM) commander in Mons, Belgium. Most recently, he served as the Commander, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

Gilbert has deployed numerous times in support of combat operations in Iraq and the Middle East, and in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve (Poland/Hungary).

Gilbert holds a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from the University of Idaho, a Master of Science in administration management from Central Michigan University, a Master of Arts in higher education administration from the University of Louisville and a Master of Science in strategic studies from the U.S National War College.

Gilbert is married with two children.
