Funk Avenue closure notice near Gate 3 housing
Pop-up barriers will be installed on Funk Avenue near Gate 3 requiring a temporary road closure.
- The project requires the closure of Funk Avenue just west of Chiles Avenue from Sept. 16 until Oct. 14 for the installation of barriers on that roadway. Funk Avenue traffic will be detoured to Harr Avenue. Chiles Avenue is not impacted during this phase and will remain fully open in both directions.
- Once Funk Avenue is reopened, a bypass road will be constructed adjacent to Chiles Avenue followed by the installation of the pop-up barriers on Chiles Avenue. During the installation of this second set of barriers, Chiles Avenue will be closed for a short distance south of Funk Avenue. During this closure, traffic will be routed around the construction area on the new bypass road. The dates for the construction of the bypass road and barrier installation on Chiles will be announced once available.
During the installation of the barriers, Gate 3 will remain open to both inbound and outbound traffic. For questions about the project, contact the Directorate of Public Works traffic engineer at 719-499-9931.

UAS and drones prohibited on installation
UAS and drones prohibited on installation
Warning signs are posted at each gate that state “(UAS) Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Drones are Prohibited on Fort Carson without authorization.”
On May 23, 2018, the Department of Defense issued a memo suspending the purchase and use of commercial drones on U.S. military installations until cybersecurity concerns could be addressed. That policy remains in effect.
Fort Carson is designated as a "No Drone Zone." There are no areas on post that are authorized for commercial drone operations. The restrictions include recreational hobbyist drones and all types of radio-controlled aircraft.
This policy does not apply to military drones or military unmanned aerial vehicles operated on post for military training purposes; however, training with them must be coordinated with the appropriate range or aviation authorities on the installation prior to use.
Anyone operating a drone is responsible for flying within FAA guidelines and regulations and must be aware of where it is and is not safe to fly.
