DPW sidewalk snow removal procedures

DPW sidewalk snow removal procedures

Fort Carson requires occupants of military or civilian government facilities be responsible for clearing snow and ice on sidewalks, steps and ramps leading from their doorstep to the first mainline sidewalk along parking lots or roadways. This is known as the 50-foot rule where units/organizations have responsibility for snow/ice clearing around their buildings.

Government facility occupants can get two boxes of ice melt per building from the Directorate of Public Works operations and maintenance contractor supply warehouse in building 8100, located at the corner of O’Connell Boulevard and Bennett Street on the north side of the cantonment area. Ice melt should be used sparingly as a little goes a long way. Supply warehouse hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For supply warehouse questions, call 719-526-3989.

On-post Fort Carson Family Homes residents can get information about snow and ice removal by referring to their resident guide or contacting their Balfour Beatty Communities leasing specialist.

UAS and drones prohibited on installation

UAS and drones prohibited on installation

Warning signs are posted at each gate that state “(UAS) Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Drones are Prohibited on Fort Carson without authorization.”

On May 23, 2018, the Department of Defense issued a memo suspending the purchase and use of commercial drones on U.S. military installations until cybersecurity concerns could be addressed. That policy remains in effect.

Fort Carson is designated as a "No Drone Zone." There are no areas on post that are authorized for commercial drone operations. The restrictions include recreational hobbyist drones and all types of radio-controlled aircraft.

This policy does not apply to military drones or military unmanned aerial vehicles operated on post for military training purposes; however, training with them must be coordinated with the appropriate range or aviation authorities on the installation prior to use.

Anyone operating a drone is responsible for flying within FAA guidelines and regulations and must be aware of where it is and is not safe to fly.

For additional public safety and government drone operations and certificate of waiver or authorization (COA) application, click here.
