Mr. Bruce E. Griggs is the Deputy to the Garrison Commander, U.S. Army Garrison – Ansbach, Germany.
Mr. Griggs joined the USAG Ansbach team in July 2024. In his current position he serves as the senior civilian and primary official to the Garrison Commander, providing leadership and program guidance for the integration and delivery of base operations (BASOPS) services in the areas of operations, training, mobilization and security; law enforcement, protection, and fire & emergency services; public works; human resources; plans, analysis, and integration; resource management; family and morale, welfare and recreation; postal; religious support; public affairs; equal opportunity; internal review; and safety.
Mr. Griggs is responsible to lead an exceptional team of garrison professionals and provide unparalleled service to ensure combat ready Soldiers, quality infrastructure and ensuring comprehensive BASOPS support services to U.S. Army Active Duty, Retirees, Civilians (U.S. and host nation), and Family Members at seven Garrison support sites located in central Germany.
Prior key civilian assignments include serving as the Deputy to the Garrison Commander at U.S. Army Garrison Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, and northwest Germany) - 2022-2024; the Deputy to the Garrison Commander and Director of Operations (Director, Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security (DPTMS) and Director, Emergency Services (DES), combined) at U.S. Army Garrison - Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland - 2019-2021; he was one of 29 Department of Defense Civilian participants in the coveted two-year Department of Defense Senior Leader Development Program (DSLDP) for strategic leaders, completing level II Professional Military Education at the U.S. Naval War College, then serving in a year-long experiential assignment as the Navy International Programs Office Liaison Officer to the Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and the Commander of USINDOPACOM - 2018-2019; the Deputy Assistant Program Manager for Maneuver, Office of the Program Manager – Saudi Arabia National Guard (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) - 2015-2018; the Director, Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security, for the United States Army Garrison – Italy, and the Deputy Chief of Training for the United States Army Africa (USARAF) (Vicenza, Italy) - 2010-2015.
Mr. Griggs is a decorated combat veteran, retiring from the Army in June 2010, after a 24-year career as an Armor and Cavalry Officer. His military assignments included a variety of command and staff positions deployed in support of US National Security Missions in Iraq, Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Saudi Arabia, and other theaters/operations around the globe; and his awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal, 5x Department of the Army Meritorious Service Medals, 4x Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service Awards, an Achievement Medal for Civilian Service, a Commander's Award for Civilian Service, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense Staff Identification Badge.
Mr. Griggs holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo, and Master’s Degrees from the United States Naval War College (National Security and Strategic Studies) and the University of Phoenix (Organizational Management). He also holds certifications in U.S. Army Strategic Planning, Lean Six Sigma (Black Belt), Knowledge Management, Anti-terrorism/Force Protection Program Management, and he is an Alpine Ski Patroller with the U.S. National Ski Patrol.
