Welcome to Yuma Proving Ground
Welcome to Yuma Proving Ground (YPG), the Army’s PREMIER test center!
Here at YPG, we execute world premier extreme natural environment testing that supports the delivery of capabilities to the Army, Joint Service, and International Partner Warfighters. YPG's vast size includes nearly 2000 square miles of restricted airspace and boasts clear, stable air and extremely dry climate which makes it an ideal location for aircraft tests. YPG's range is over 838,000 acres (1,300 square miles) providing plenty of range-space for long-range firing and vehicles courses for automotive testing.
YPG is located outside the city limits of Yuma, Arizona. Yuma is a city in southwestern Arizona known for its extremely sunny and dry desert climate, situated near the California and Mexican borders, at the convergence of the Colorado and Gila rivers. It serves as a significant winter agricultural hub, the "winter vegetable capital of the world," and a destination for outdoor recreation such as river activities and visits to the Imperial Sand Dunes.

Visitor Control Center/Weapons Registration
All YPG visitors who do not possess a military identification card or CAC card issued to government employees and authorized contractors must undergo a computer background check of individual records through the National Crime Information Center prior to gaining entry to the proving ground. These checks are conducted inside YPG's Visitor Control Center located within the Wahner Brooks Interpretive Display located on Imperial Dam Road and normally take no longer than 15 minutes. All visitors must also possess: 1) Real ID Act compliant driver's license or identification card if not operating a motor vehicle; 2) Vehicle registration; 3) Proof of insurance.
To register weapons at YPG, you must take the firearm's registration information (make, model, serial number, caliber, etc.) to the YPG Visitor Control Center or the Police Desk during business hours.
