Visitor Access

Only individuals with official business or a sponsor can enter the post after having credentials verified. A sponsor can be an active-duty service member or a federal employee with an active Common Access Card commonly known as a CAC card. Contractors with a CAC card cannot be sponsors.

All YPG visitors who do not possess a military identification card or CAC card issued to government employees and authorized contractors must undergo a computer background check of individual records through the National Crime Information Center prior to gaining entry to the proving ground. These checks are conducted inside YPG's Visitor Control Center located within the Wahner Brooks Interpretive Display located on Imperial Dam Road and normally take no longer than 15 minutes. All visitors must also possess: 1) Real ID Act compliant driver's license or identification card if not operating a motor vehicle; 2) Vehicle registration; 3) Proof of insurance.

Foreign nationals may only obtain access to the proving ground by being escorted at all times by an authorized Government official or Yuma Proving Ground resident.

As of August 31, 2023, YPG does not accept state-issued driver's licenses or state-issued IDs that do not meet the Real ID Act of 2005 standards for access purposes.  Person(s) requesting access with a non-compliant state driver’s license or ID will need to present, additional documents along with the non-compliant DL/ID.

In addition, DoD civilian retiree cards are no longer issued, and are no longer accepted at DoD installations. DoD civilian retirees who need access to YPG can take their Retired SF-50 to the YPG Visitor Control Center and have their REAL ID compliant identification enrolled into the AIE system.  The REAL ID will be their pass to access the installation.

The Visitor Control Center is open for visitor background checks and credentialing Monday through Thursday 6:30 AM to 3:45 PM.
