LTC Marcus O’Neal

 

 

LTC Marcus O’Neal earned his commission and graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate from Southern University (Baton Rouge, LA) in 2002, entering active service as an Armor Officer. Following the Armor Officer Basic Course and Scout Platoon Leader’s Course, he was assigned to 2nd Armored Cavalry (CAV) Regiment (Fort Polk, LA), deploying as a CAV Scout Platoon Leader, leading reconnaissance and surveillance operations in Sadr City, Iraq. He later served as a Support Platoon Leader and CAV Troop Executive Officer. In 2006, Marcus transitioned into the Military Intelligence (MI) branch and, after completing the Captain’s Career Course, was assigned to 1st Infantry Division (Fort Riley, KS), deploying as an Intelligence Advisor supporting 11th Iraqi Army Division in Baghdad, Iraq.
 
Upon redeployment, he was assigned as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Georgia Tech (Atlanta, GA). Next, LTC O’Neal was assigned to Headquarters, 8th Army (Yongsan, South Korea) as an Intelligence Officer in the Current Operations directorate, subsequently serving as Commander, Headquarters Detachment, Army Support Element-Korea. After command, Marcus attended the National Intelligence University (Washington D.C), earning a Master of Science of Strategic Intelligence immediately followed by completion of the Command & General Staff Operations Course. In 2014, Marcus was assigned to XVIII Airborne Corps (Fort Bragg, NC) and served as Deputy Chief of the Analysis & Control Element and later deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan as an Intelligence Planner supporting ISAF Joint Command. Upon redeployment, LTC O’Neal was assigned as S-3, Operations Officer, 519th Expeditionary-MI Battalion (Thunder) as the battalion transformed from the Battlefield Surveillance design to the Expeditionary MI unit design.
 
His subsequent assignments were as the 525th Expeditionary-MI Brigade (Lightning) Executive Officer and Brigade Operations Officer which included a deployment to Bagram, Afghanistan to assume responsibility of the ODIN (Observe, Detect, Identify, Neutralize) mission. In 2018, Marcus was assigned to the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2 (Pentagon) as a Plans Officer and provided Executive Officer support to the Director, Army’s Counterintelligence and Human Intelligence Directorate. Most recently, Marcus was assigned to the Office of the Chief of Staff, Army, serving as Policy Strategist in the Executive Strategy Group and later as an Executive Officer supporting the Office of the Director of the Army Staff. LTC O’Neal currently serves as the Commander of 103rd Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Battalion. LTC O’Neal’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 combat C-device and 3 oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Army Staff Identification Badge, and Combat Action Badge.

Command Sergeant Major

CSM Nam K. Nguyen

 

CSM Nam K. Nguyen enlisted in the United States Army out of Arlington, TX, in April 2004 as an Infantryman. He attended basic training, advanced individual training (AIT), and airborne school at Fort Benning, GA. His first assignment was with the 1- 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment at Fort Richardson, AK. He served as a machine gunner and squad designated marksman on an Infantry Fire Team. Later, CSM Nguyen assessed and was selected into the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) Reconnaissance and Surveillance Platoon. He served as an assistant team leader and later advanced to team leader. CSM Nguyen was then selected to serve as a Ranger Instructor (RI) at the 6th Ranger Training Battalion at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. After his time as an RI, he entered the Army's bonus, extension, and retraining program in 2012 to become a Cryptologic Linguist.

He attended the Defense Language Institute (DLI) at the Presidio of Monterey, CA, followed by AIT at Goodfellow Air Force Base, TX. He was then assigned to the 297th Military Intelligence Battalion, where he served as a Platoon Sergeant, S3 Operations NCOIC, and the HHC First Sergeant. Next, CSM Nguyen was assessed and selected by USASOC to become the Military Intelligence Company First Sergeant for 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Upon completing his first sergeant duties, he assumed the position as Chief Intelligence Sergeant for 10th SFG(A). He then was selected as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the Joint Intelligence Operations Center at Joint Base Pearl Harbor, HI. He currently serves as the BN CSM of the 103rd IEW BN, FSGA. CSM Nguyen has deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation RESOLUTE SUPPORT, and multiple OCONUS training exercises.

His military education includes Basic and Advanced Infantryman training, Cryptologic Basic and Advanced Course, Basic Leader Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Sergeants Major Course, Airborne School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, Reconnaissance Surveillance Leaders Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, Survival Evasion Resistance Escape Course (High Risk), DLI Arabic Course, Unit Prevention Leader, Casualty Combat Care Course, and Combative level-1. He has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Workforce Development from the United States Army Command and General Staff College.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Army Commendation Medal (4th award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (5th award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (5th award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th award), North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Thailand Jump Wings, Pathfinder Badge, Ranger Tab, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold), and Sergeant Audie Murphy Club Member.
