Fort Polk Protocol Mission:

To facilitate the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) and Fort Polk's mission by providing expert advice and support on matters of protocol and etiquette, and by managing the logistical and ceremonial aspects of visits, events, and engagements involving distinguished visitors and leadership. This includes planning, coordinating, and executing ceremonies, conferences, and other special events, as well as serving as a liaison between JRTC and Fort Polk and other military and civilian organizations.

What is the Protocol Office:

The Protocol Office at JRTC & Fort Polk is responsible for managing and coordinating official visits, ceremonies, and high-visibility events involving:
  • Senior military leaders (e.g., General Officers, Brigade Commanders)
  • Distinguished visitors (DVs)
  • Congressional delegations
  • Foreign military partners
  • Senior Department of Defense civilians

 

Core Responsibilities:

1. Official Visitor Coordination
  • Manages visit requests, including itinerary planning and escort assignment
  • Ensures all security, lodging, and transportation needs are addressed
  • Coordinates with units and directorates involved in the visit

  • Advises on customs, courtesies, and honors appropriate for visiting dignitaries
  • Oversees execution of ceremonies (e.g., retirements, award events, memorials)
  • Ensures U.S. and foreign flags, gifts, seating, and military courtesies are correct
3. ​​​​​​​Billeting & Logistics for Senior Leaders
  • Coordinates lodging for eligible visitors (e.g., General Officers, Brigade CSMs)
  • Helps reserve DV quarters or VIP accommodations through official channels
4. ​​​​​​​Liaison Role
  • Serves as the single point of contact for visit planning, approvals, and troubleshooting
  • Interfaces between external organizations and Fort Polk leadership
