Those interested in volunteering at Fort Lee but don't know where to start should attend this Army Community Service-hosted class conducted on the first Friday of each month. This special event for DOD ID cardholders at Williams Stadium will feature DeeJay music; a wide selection of food vendors; and the return of Family and MWR's Kidzone attraction with inflatable slides and bounce hounces, a rock wall and more. Also returning this year is the uplifting "Salute to the Union" performance featuring live cannon fire (starting at 6 p.m.). The HideAway club 'kicks it country style' at this annual celebration that's open to the entire Team Lee community. The Army Community Service Family Advocacy Program will present a free class, titled "What to Expect Now That You're Expecting," in building 1231, Mahone Avenue. Every Wednesday through Sept. 21, the Cardinal Golf Club hosts a golf competition in which players can sign up as singles or twosomes and get paired to make four-person teams. Prizes are awarded to the top players. The cost is $15 for members, $23 for DOD ID cardholders, and $27 for all others. Weekly events are limited to the first 60 paid registrants. Outdoor Recreation is offering kayaking excursions on the Appomattox River biweekly throughout the summer. The launch point is Roslyn Landing in Colonial Heights. All equipment and a trip map is provided. The cost is $25 per person. Registration is required no later than noon on the day of the event. For more information, call 804-765-2212. Residents of the Jackson Circle housing area will have an opportunity to speak with senior leaders and representatives of community support agencies during the installation's third Walking Town Hall. Updates about the event will be posted to the ArmyFortLee Facebook page.
Authorized Family and MWR patrons are invited to this special event to be held at the Paintball Range adjacent to the Outdoor Recreation Center, building 15014, 5th Street. Players must be 13 years of age or older and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The rental cost is $40, which includes a marker, air, face mask and 500 paintballs.
