Col. G. Kirk Alexander
Col. G. Kirk Alexander assumed the role of the Deputy Director, Installation
Management Command-Europe in June 2025
Previously, he served as the Commander for U.S. Army Garrison in Stuttgart,
Germany. Prior to assuming command of the garrison, Col. Alexander was the
Current Operations Chief for U.S. Central Command, a position he held since
2021.
Col. Alexander enlisted as an Infantryman in the Georgia Army National Guard
in 1995. He graduated from North Georgia College as a Distinguished Military
Graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration and was commissioned in the Field Artillery, where
he initially served as a Fire Direction Officer and Platoon Leader in the 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery.
He also served as a Striker Platoon Leader (COLT) in Delta Troop, 4th Cavalry at Fort Riley, Kansas.
In 2004, he deployed with the 25th Infantry Division to Bagram, Afghanistan where he served as the
Executive Officer for the CJ3 in Combined Joint Task Force 76. In 2006, Col. Alexander assumed
command of Alpha Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Field Artillery and led the unit to Taji Iraq in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2013, Col. Alexander deployed to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar where he served
as Chief of Plans for a counter-corruption task force supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
In addition to his command in the 11th Field Artillery, Col. Alexander also led 1st Battalion, 31st Field
Artillery (Basic Combat Training) at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 2017-2019.
Col. Alexander’s staff assignments include service as Executive Officer of 1st Battalion, 78th Field
Artillery and the 428th Field Artillery Brigade. He also served as a Battalion Operations Officer in the
25th Infantry Division, with the U. S. Forces Command Inspector General’s Office, and he was assigned
to the Commander’s Initiative Group for Training and Doctrine Command.
His military education includes the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS), School of Advanced
Military Studies (SAMS), Command and General Staff College, the Combined Arms Services Staff
School, and the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course. He earned a Master of Arts in Management from
Webster University, a Master of Military Art and Science in Theater Operations from the U.S. Army
Command and General Staff College, and a Master of Science in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy
from the National Defense University.
Col. Alexander’s awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC),
Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Joint Service
Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army
Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal (1 OLC),
Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and
Service Medals, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO
Medal, Parachutist Badge and the Ranger Tab.
