Employment Verification
Employment Verification
Fort Benning cannot verify employment history. Depending on the type of employment, see the resources below to obtain verification.
Employers wishing to verify service can request a copy of the former service member’s DD214 to verify service. A Report of Separation is generally issued when a service member performs active duty or at least 90 consecutive days of active duty training. The Report of Separation contains information normally needed to verify military service for benefits, retirement, employment, and membership in veterans' organizations. Information shown on the Report of Separation may include the service member's: date and place of release from active duty, home address after separation, last duty assignment and rank, military job specialty, military education, decorations, medals, badges, citations, and campaign awards, total creditable service and any foreign service credited
Separation information (type of separation, character of service, authority and reason for separation, separation and reenlistment eligibility codes) For Soldiers who have separated from the military can obtain a copy off their DD214 at the National Archives; http://www.archives.gov/veterans/ or 1-866-272-6272.
This site contains a resource for requesting military service records, military medical records or to replace lost or damaged medals.
Resources
The Department of Defense Civilian Personnel Advisory Service website is a great resource for employment verification. https://www.dfas.mil/CivilianEmployees/Civilian-Employment-Verification/
The Department of Defense’s Current Employees (Civilian and Military) and Former Employees (Retired Military, Retired Civilians and Separated) have the following choices to meet provider requests for employment and salary verification.
Prospective Employers, Lenders, Social Service Agency Representatives, Landlords and others MUST work through the employee to obtain employment and/or salary verification information. Third Party Requestors CANNOT use this system. It must be initiated and processed by the Employee.
Current Employees and Military Servicemembers
Civilian Employees may use Employment Verification, a MyBiz+ tool, using their Common Access Card (CAC) to send a password-protected email attachment.
Military Servicemembers can refer requestors to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) website for independent verification of service dates and/or to obtain a copy of their leave and earnings statement via myPay, a Defense Finance and Accounting Service tool.
Former Employees
Civilian and Military Retirees may use myPay, a Defense Finance and Accounting Service tool, to obtain a copy of their Retiree Account Statement.
Retired Civilian Employees may request service from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Retirement Office by phone or via OPM Services Online. Your 1099-R reflects both taxable Retired Pay and taxable Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay.
Separated Civilian Employees (non-retirees) may request access to their Official Personnel files (after 120 days from Separation Date), either in person or electronically, from the National Personnel Records Center Federal Records Center Program.
Servicemember Civil Relief Act will verify active duty service
SCRA is a program that provides certain protections from civil actions against service members who are called to Active Duty. It restricts or limits actions against these personnel in the areas of financial management, such as rental agreements, security deposits, evictions, installment contracts, credit card interest rates, mortgages, civil judicial proceedings, income tax payments and more can be accessed from this site.
Users may submit a Single Record Request to obtain a report certifying Title 10 active duty status for provisions under SCRA. This report is also called a Certificate. No account is required to use the Single Record Request.
