Colonel Katherine J. Slingerland
Katie Slingerland was commissioned in Army Aviation from Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, TN in 2004. She graduated flight school as a UH-60, Blackhawk pilot. Along with her bachelor’s degree in English, she earned a Master of Science in General Administration from Central Michigan University. Additionally, she received a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
Prior to her assignment as the Redstone Arsenal Garrison Commander, she was a student in the Army War College in Carlisle, PA.
Throughout her career, Slingerland has held various command and staff positions, including Executive Officer to LTG Michael McCurry and MG Clair Gill, Battalion Command of 1-145th Aviation Regiment, Brigade Operations Officer and Observer-Coach/Trainer in 166 Aviation Brigade; Presidential Airlift Operations Coordinator at the White House, Washington DC; Battalion Executive Officer and Operations Officer for 1-3 Attack Reconnaissance Battalion and 3-17 Air Cavalry Squadron at Hunter Army Airfield, Savannah, GA; Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General, Fort Rucker, AL; Company Command at 110th Brigade Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Fort Rucker, AL; Operations Officer for Provincial Reconstruction Team, Ghazni, Afghanistan; Assistant Operations Officer in 1-228th Aviation Battalion Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras; Platoon Leader and Executive Officer for Alpha Company, 2-2 Assault Helicopter Battalion, K-16, Seoul, Korea.
Colonel Slingerland’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, five Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendations Medals, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Army Aviation Badge, Air Assault Badge, German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge, and Presidential Service Badge.
Katie has been married to CW4 Jayson Slingerland over twelve years, and they have one son, Jase Slingerland, seven years old.
