The Cyber School provides world-class education in EW and Offensive and Defensive Cyberspace Operations (OCO/DCO) to produce highly skilled, agile, and innovative intra-service Warriors, educated to Army and Joint standards, ready to fight and win in and through the Cyberspace Domain and Electromagnetic Spectrum.

Black signifies the hidden nature of cyberspace operations and the importance of privacy and security. Silver (Gray) embodies the technological emphasis and the balance between offensive and defensive capabilities. Gold is symbolic of success and emphasizes domination in the cyber domain. The lightning bolts indicate the swift nature of electronic warfare. The sword represents offensive missions, while the shield is indicative of defense. The keyhole alludes to exploitation missions and is in the center of the shield to represent every defense having a weakness.

History

New warfighting domains are not established very often.  Space joined land, sea, and air as a domain in 1962 when the U.S. first pursued anti-satellite weapons.  Forty-two years later, in 2004, the Joint Chiefs declared Cyberspace to be a warfighting domain as digital systems could be used to create intended effects.  In October 2010, the DOD established Army Cyber Command, but most cyber assets were still primarily attached to the Military Intelligence and Signal Branches.  Senior leaders recognized the need for Army Cyber personnel to have their own career field, and in 2014, Fort Eisenhower became the home of the new Cyber Center of Excellence, which directs all Signal and Cyber training for the Army.  Additionally, the Cyber Branch became official on September 1, 2014.  During this period, the Army also directed the Cyber School to oversee Electromagnetic Warfare training as all EW personnel transitioned to the new Cyber Branch.  Operating under the Cyber School, HQ&A Company started its first class with a Cyber Basic Officer Leaders Course in 2015, and the Cyber Training Battalion, now known as the 401ST Cyber Battalion, was officially activated in 2016.

The first decade of the Army Cyber School and Branch witnessed many milestones and achievements.  The Cyber School’s growth during this time is evident by the increase from 32 to over 3,600 students per year.  Additionally, between Active Duty, Guard and Reserve, the Army Cyber Force now numbers over 6,000 personnel.

Today, the 401st Cyber Battalion, which consists of HQ&A, Bravo, and Charlie Companies, stands as the foremost Cyber education center in the Department of Defense, with a mission of developing Cyber leaders and Soldiers to defend, attack, and exploit a path to victory on the battlefield of cyberspace.

Office Chief of Cyber

The Office Chief of Cyber (OCC) is the Personnel Proponent for the United States Army Cyber Corps.

  • OCC serves as the Strategic Human Resources Planner and advisor to the Chief of Cyber for all Cyber Soldiers, both AC and RC.
  • OCC is the primary POC for all personnel and total Army force worldwide on Cyber Branch matters.
  • OCC serves as the focal point, internal and external, for Cyber Branch functions and marketing activities.
  • OCC coordinates personnel lifecycle management and force integration functions for all CMF 17 Soldiers.
  • OCC is composed of four divisions:  Officer, Warrant Officer, Enlisted and Reserve Component.

Cyber Officer Corps

Army Cyber Officers lead Soldiers and Civilians in executing real world cyberspace operations and electromagnetic warfare at all echelons. Because of the technical and technological nature of the mission sets, Cyber Officers are inspirational, well-educated leaders who are also logical, analytical, innovative, technologically adept problem solvers. Reserve Component Division

  • Provides direct support to all Compos 2 & 3 students who are assigned to the Cyber School in a student status through mentorship in career progression and promotion opportunities, administrative support with orders and pay, and specific Unit & State matters
  • Coordinates ongoing training and planning efforts between the Army National Guard (ARNG) & United States Army Reserve (USAR) Cyber units and the United States Army Cyber School (USACyS) to enhance Compos 2 & 3 Cyber force’s training, alignment, and sustainment.

You'll utilize personnel, resources, and capabilities to engage and create effects against adversaries in and through cyberspace in order to preserve the ability to use friendly cyberspace capabilities; protect data, networks, net-centric capabilities, and other designated systems; and project power by the application of force in or through cyberspace.

  • Be a college graduate with at least a four-year degree
  • Be between 18 and 34 years old
  • Officer Basic Leadership Course (Or Additional Special Courses/Qualifications)
  • Able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance

Electromagnetic Warfare Specialist – 17E
a. Major duties.  
Electromagnetic Warfare Specialists are subject matter experts on the manipulation, control, and dominance of the electromagnetic spectrum. They advise and assist the commander or command Electromagnetic Warfare Officer (EWO), as applicable, to defeat the enemy through planning, coordination, integration, and execution of Electromagnetic Attack (EA), protect and harden friendly systems, processes, and personnel by developing, training, and executing Electromagnetic Protection (EP), and support current and future operations by planning and performing Electromagnetic Warfare Support (ES). Electromagnetic Warfare Specialists plan for and coordinate the integration of Electromagnetic warfare into military operations through every step of the military decision making process (MDMP). Duties for MOS 17E at each skill level are: 

    (1) MOSC 17E1O Operates and maintains Electromagnetic warfare (EW) equipment to include Special Purpose Electromagnetic Attack (SPEA) systems, Direction Finding (DF) systems, modeling and simulation tools, EW test equipment, and counter radio-controlled improvised explosive device electromagnetic warfare (CREW) systems. Evaluates technical electronic intelligence data for force engagement operations in a joint service network, assisting in generating Enemy Electromagnetic Order of Battle and EW threat briefs and maintaining the common operating picture.  Assists in preparing and evaluating interference reports and EA requests. Operates and performs operator PMCS on EW system equipped vehicles/system prime power units. Conducts EA in support of ground maneuver, tactical deception, or in support of information operations. Conducts ES in support of an information collection plan to answer PIR, provide early warning to ground maneuver units, or to assist in the assessment of unit EP measures. Conducts EP activities to harden communications against intentional or unintentional electromagnetic interference, minimize emission signature of friendly unit communication and non-communication emitters, and avoid spectrum interference by adjacent units.

    (2) MOSC 17E2O. Performs and supervises duties shown in preceding skill level as an Electromagnetic Warfare Team Chief or Battalion to Brigade level Staff NCO. Responsible for execution and coordination of cyber electromagnetic operations to include EA, EP, and ES activities; operate test measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE); maintain and troubleshoot assigned equipment; resolves interoperability issues at unit level; prepares and maintains EW running estimates; assists company CREW specialists to ensure an effective CREW electronic counter measure (ECM) force protection (FP) program.

    (3) MOSC 17E3O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level. Serves as Electromagnetic Warfare Platoon Senior Team Chief or Brigade Combat Team Staff NCO. Demonstrates proficiency in orders process, Military Decision Making Process (MDMP), and the targeting process; manages employment of EW air and ground systems; reviews, processes, and forwards effects packets to higher; ensures timely dissemination of information to and from higher headquarters; identifies risks, vulnerabilities, courses of action and potential countermeasures. Understands the cyberspace domain and coordinates EW actions and effects with offensive and defensive cyberspace operations

    (4) MOSC 17E4O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level. Serves as Electromagnetic Warfare Platoon Sergeant or as staff NCO at echelons above Brigade.  Primary planner of Cyberspace Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA) for CEMA section at echelons Division and above; ensures support to subordinate units; manages equipment and resource issues with and between higher, adjacent and subordinate units; prioritizes allocation of Army EW air and ground assets; reviews and processes effects packets; coordinates integration and execution of cyberspace joint EW operations.

    (5) MOSC 17E5O. Performs duties shown in preceding skill level. Serves as Company 1SG or Brigade or higher staff NCO. Primary enlisted EW advisor of the EW element at the Brigade or Division echelons; primary planner of CEMA for EW Platoon elements; significant combined operations emphasis; prioritization of Army, joint and multi-national EW assets between adjacent and subordinate commands, as applicable; allocation of EW equipment and resources; develops tactical level guidance from strategic guidance pushed down from higher.

b. Physical demands ratings and qualifications for initial award of MOS. EW specialists must possess the following qualifications:
    (1) A physical demands rating of Moderate (Gold).
    (2) A physical profile of 222221.
    (3) Normal Color vision.
    (4) Qualifying scores.
        (a) A minimum score of 105 in aptitude area SC, ST and EL .
        (b) A minimum OPAT score of Standing Long Jump (LJ) - 0120 cm, seated Power Throw (PT) - 0350 cm, Strength Deadlift (SD) - 0120 lbs., and Interval Aerobic Run (IR) - 0036 shuttles in Physical Demand Category in “Moderate” (Gold). 
    (5) A U.S. citizen. 
    (6) High school graduate or equivalent.  
    (7) Security Eligibility Requirements: The Soldier must maintain TOP SECRET (TS) Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access eligibility requirements to be awarded and maintain this MOS (TS/SCI granted or open T5 investigation reflected in JPAS). The clearance requirement to begin training is SECRET with T5 investigation initiated and reflected in JPAS. 
    (8) Based on specific unit of assignment requirements, Soldiers in this MOS must be capable of passing a counterintelligence scope polygraph (CSP). 
    (9) Formal training (completion of MOS 17E Course conducted under the auspices of the US Army Cyber School) is mandatory. Waiver may be granted by Commandant, US Army Cyber School, Fort Gordon, GA 30905-5300. 
    (10) IET Soldiers incur a 5 year term of service upon completion of the 17E Electromagnetic Warfare Specialist Course. 
    (11) The Service Remaining Requirement (SRR) is three years for reclassification into MOS 17E under the provisions of AR 614-200, Chapter 4.  

c. Additional skill identifiers. (Note: Refer to table 12-8 (Listing of universal ASI’s associated with all enlisted MOS)).  
    (1) L8--Joint Operational Fires and Effects (JOFE) (skill level 4 only; personnel and positions). (Effective 202610).

Purpose

As a Cyber Warfare Technician, you are the technical expert on executing Cyberspace Operations within Army and Joint Service formations. You are responsible for directing, planning, administering, managing, integrating, and assessing the technical aspects of Offensive and Defensive Cyberspace Operations. You serve as a trusted advisor on the employment, operation, and management of cyberspace assets and personnel. To maintain network integrity and functionality, you help protect the Department of Defense information Network against foreign and domestic threat vectors.

Requirements

  • Be at least a SGT (E5) or above.
  • Applicants must be a BLC Graduate
  • Certification training in SEC+, CASP, or CISSP, or equivalent training such as JCAC/CTOC/CCTC/BRIGHTON/TOUCHSTONE
  • Hold a current IAT / IAM Level 2 certification (Security+, etc)
  • Applicants must be able to obtain an adjudicated TOP SECRET (TS)/Secure Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance. Compos 2 and 3 must have a TS clearance before the 170A qualification course attendance

As an Electromagnetic Warfare Technician, you are the technical expert on executing Electromagnetic Warfare Operations and integrating Cyberspace Operations within Army and Joint Service formations. You serve as a trusted advisor on electromagnetic warfare systems, adversary personnel, facilities, and equipment. You will utilize this knowledge to deny, degrade, and disrupt enemy capabilities while protecting the use of friendly electromagnetic warfare systems. You are responsible for coordinating efforts to synchronize effects to disrupt or destroy electromagnetic warfare targets, whether by lethal or nonlethal means.

Requirements

  • Plans, organizes, implements, monitors and evaluates operations and the threat environment, in support of the EW Officer.

As a Cyber Capabilities Developer Technician, you are the technical expert on developing and implementing software and hardware capabilities. You are responsible for analyzing system vulnerabilities, product research, capability development, documentation, and implementation of software and hardware capabilities that operate in and through cyberspace and serve as a force multiplier for maneuver forces.

CCTC is a nine-week course that provides students with intermediate skills in Cyberspace Operations involving the analysis, exploitation, and remediation of Windows and Linux Operating Systems, Networking, and IT Security systems. Upon completion of this course, students will possess the necessary technical knowledge and skill required to perform network analysis of Windows and Linux-based systems and provide recommended solutions to reduce network vulnerabilities.

PnS is a two-week course that provides students with basic skills in Python programming and scripting. Students are introduced to the following topics: Git repositories, variables and loops, test-drive development, incorporating files, abstraction, inheritance, ciphers, working with regrex, encrypted communication, DNS zone transfers, DNS cache poisoning, log parsing, log cleaning, memory dump analysis, and scripting Metasploit.

Upon graduation from the four-week OCOA course, students will demonstrate the ability to identify oversight and compliance principles, applicable laws, policies, and regulations associated with Offensive Cyberspace Operations, identify adversary threats and methods, have a basic understanding of the countermeasures that can be taken, will possess a basic knowledge of the technologies and mediums over which Offensive Cyberspace Operations are conducted, and will have a basic knowledge of the techniques, tactics, and procedures that are employed by Offensive Cyberspace Operations analysts. Students must have a Top Secret (TS) w/ Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance.

COPC is a two-week course that enables students to plan and brief Cyber Operations (CO); define, plan, and advise for Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO); define, plan, and advise for Offensive Cyberspace Operations (OCO); define Cyber Mission Force (CMF) structure and organizations; define, plan, and advise for Cyber Support to Corps and Below (CSCB); and demonstrate a proficiency to target in Cyberspace. The Cyber School offers three versions of COPC: version 1 (COPC) requires students to have a Top Secret (TS) w/ Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance; version 2 (FVEY COPC) is for FVEY students (must have TS/FVEY security clearance); and version 3 (UNCLASS COPC) is an Unclassified version for students from coalition partner countries.

This course will produces graduates capable of leading Offensive Cyber Operations (OCO) and meeting USCYBERCOM Mission Commander pipeline training requirements. This course is designed to certify Cyber Mission Force (CMF) personnel to act as Mission Commanders (MCs) for OCO. The course consists of OCO planning, live operation observations, and a final operational walk through. At the end of the course, students are prepared to lead OCO as MCs. Students must have a Top Secret (TS) w/ Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance.

CEAC is a two-week course that educates Cyber Mission Force (CMF) Targeteers on the intrinsic aspects of targeting in cyberspace. Using the Joint Targeting Cycle as the framework for the course, CEAC emphasizes characteristics of targeting in cyberspace that are doctrinally unique and/or require an amended process not codified in joint targeting doctrine. Completion of this course will better enable students to successfully plan and execute effects in cyberspace in conjunction with the Joint Targeting Cycle. Students must have a Top Secret (TS) w/ Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance.

T10 BOC is a five-week course that is designed to prepare students to qualify as Basic Cyber Mission Force (CMF) Operators who will execute Title 10 operations as an integral member of Offensive Cyber Operations (OCO). This course includes education and training on the following topics to include: Linux operating systems, Windows operating systems, Exploitation Methodology, CMF Operations, and Operational Planning. Attendees must have passed the Computer Network Assessment Battery (CNAB). It is recommended that attendees be graduates of the Computer Network Operations Qualification Course (CNOQC). Students must have a Top Secret (TS) w/ Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance.

AOC-A is a 19 week, 4 day course that meets pipeline training requirements for Senior skill-level qualification of Cyber Mission Force (CMF) Operators. AOC-A consists of eight (8) SANS courses: SEC560 (Enterprise Penetration Testing), SEC542 (Web App Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking), SEC580 (Metasploit for Enterprise Penetration Testing), SEC565 (Red Team Operations and Adversary Emulation), FOR508 (Advanced Incident Response, Threat Hunting, and Digital Forensics), SEC599 (Defeating Advanced Adversaries – Purple Team Tactics & Kill Chain Defenses), SEC660 (Advanced Penetration Testing, Exploit Writing and Ethical Hacking), and SEC699 (Purple Team Tactics – Adversary Emulation for Breach Prevention & Detection). Students complete five (5) GIAC exams as well as the requirements for the remaining three (3) SANS courses. NSA has granted reciprocity to FORGE 201 thru 501 for individuals that obtain the five (5) specified GIAC certifications and three (3) SANS course completion certificates. Attendees must have passed the Computer Network Assessment Battery (CNAB) and be graduates of Computer Network Operations Qualification Course (CNOQC).

AOC-P is the USCYBERCOM-directed training requirement for Senior skill-level qualification of Title 10 Cyber Mission Force (CMF) Operator work-role personnel. The course educates personnel on USCYBERCOM policies, tools, infrastructure, tradecraft, and tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) approved for use during offensive cyber operations (OCO). Attendees must have passed the Computer Network Assessment Battery (CNAB); be graduates of Computer Network Operations Qualification Course (CNOQC); and be graduates of the Title 10 Basic Operator Course (T10 BOC); as well as be certified Basic skill-level CMF Operators. Students must have a Top Secret (TS) w/ Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance.

The Title 10 Exploitation Analyst (EA) course educates Cyber Mission Force (CMF) EA personnel to perform technical analysis of metadata and content to ensure target continuity, to evaluate intelligence value of targets, and develop techniques to establish continued collection or gain additional target information. The EA Course blends traditional intelligence analysis with a technical understanding of communication infrastructures, physical and logical network topographies, protocols and applications, and trending technologies. Specific topics include: conducting target research from various sources; identifying vulnerabilities, indicators and warnings; performing intelligence analysis through the application of analytic tools and techniques; providing government clients with analysis of targeting options; and providing CMF analytic tradecraft training. Cyber Technical College

Mission

The Cyber Technical College trains America's most talented and innovative citizens and develops them into the world's most lethal, professional, ethical, and technically competent Cyber Warfare and Electromagnetic Warfare workforces during their Initial Military Training (IMT) and functional training courses.

The course includes education and training on the areas associated with the duties and responsibilities of the Electromagnetic Warfare Specialist. Topics include: understanding the evolution of Electromagnetic Warfare (EW); how to analyze the Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS); and understanding Army Cyberspace, Spectrum Management, and Intelligence Doctrine as they apply to EW Operations. Students will understand and apply EW mathematics and physics to electronics and the EMS. Soldiers will use EMS theory to understand the characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of friendly and advisory EW military elements. Participants of the course will learn how to integrate and synchronize OCO and DCO strategies with other lethal and nonlethal actions to enable commanders to mass effects and gain advantage in cyberspace and across other domains. Soldiers will learn technical skills in order to directly or indirectly support Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) by employing devices, computer programs, or techniques, including combinations of software, firmware, or hardware designed to create an effect in or through cyberspace.

Mission

The Cyber Leader College trains America's most talented and innovative citizens and develops them into the world's most lethal, professional, ethical, and technically competent Cyber Warfare and Electromagnetic Warfare workforces during their Professional Military Education (PME) and functional training courses.

The CyCCC provides the Army with a corps of highly skilled Officers who lead, plan, and direct Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO), Offensive Cyberspace Operations (OCO), Electromagnetic Warfare (EW), and Cyber Capability Development (CCD) in support of maneuver and effects operations in and through the cyberspace warfighting domain and the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) to ensure freedom of action. The Soldier will apply the leadership and skills necessary to effectively train and lead cyber operations personnel in defending cyber networks, by performing threat management of new and existing networks and performing network forensic operations after a network intrusion.

The course will train Electromagnetic Warfare Technicians to provide advice on technical and tactical employment of Joint and Army EW systems, supervise the maintenance of Army EW system equipment and components, evaluate the technical and tactical operations of EW sections, integrate EW into the planning and targeting processes, monitor the development of the enemy EW order of battle and the processing of target information and intelligence, assist in production and application of target selection standards, maintain and assist in developing the EW staff estimate, assist the EW Officer in preparing the EW appendix to the operations order, coordinate external EW support mission requirements, integrate EW into the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP), and develop and execute EW policies and procedures for supported organizations.

The course includes education and training on the following functional area topics: Data Structure and Algorithms, Object-oriented Programming, Operating Systems, Structured Query Language development, Network and Computer Programming languages, and Cryptography with Phased Capstone Assessments throughout the training. The course uses topic-based training in a collaborative setting with maximum use of practical exercises and equipment for reinforcement and remediation. 170D Cyber Capabilities Developer Technicians will be trained on Army tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) for Cyber Warrant Officers that prepares them for planning and execution in a variety of tactical and operational organizations. Additionally, they will be trained on conducting analysis of system vulnerabilities, conducting technical research, executing cyberspace capability development, and implementing software and hardware capabilities to operate in cyberspace.

The course teaches 170A warrant officers topics on: Critical Thinking Methodologies, Emerging Technology, Joint Operations, Army Operations, Management Processes, Cyberspace Policies/Strategies, and Case Studies of OCO/DCO/cyberspace current events. Upon completion of this course, the MOS 170A Warrant Officer will be a professional Officer of character and presence capable of applying the leadership and skills necessary to effectively train and lead Cyber Operations personnel in defending friendly cyber networks and attacking adversary networks.

The course is focused on the skills, knowledge, aptitudes, and tasks required and deemed critical for the Electromagnetic Warfare Technician serving at the Division, Corps and Joint Task Force headquarters, performing in Joint environments in support of unified land operations. This course provides additional training in the following subject areas: Electromagnetic Warfare plan development in support of Joint and Unified Land Operations, intelligence requirements for EW, EW integration into Joint Targeting Cycle, and EW combat assessments. Additionally, Cyber Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA) and Cyberspace Operations and Planning are covered in depth, focusing on the integration of Electromagnetic Attack, Electromagnetic Support, and Special Electromagnetic Attack assets into Joint Operations, CEMA Working Groups in a Joint environment, EW reprogramming management; and EW mission effectiveness.

The 170D WOAC provides 170D WOBC graduates with an overview of the developer specialties by covering each of the topics (Organizational Processes, Project Management, Operating System Architectures, Advanced Programming Concepts, Embedded Development, Hardware/Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Data Science) to spearhead them towards becoming a master developer.
