It’s time again to prepare for the Annual White Sands Missile Range Ammunition Amnesty Day.  The event will occur on Thursday, 20 October 2022 between 0800-1430.  In accordance with DA PAM 385-64 and DA Pam 700-16 amnesty is an anonymous process and may be used without fear of penalty or prosecution.

The collection point will be Gate A-18, located on I-70; which is five miles east from the NM Hwy 213 (Owen Road) which is the turnoff to the White Sands Missile Range Las Cruces Gate. Quality Assurance Specialist Ammunition Surveillance (QASAS) will be accepting amnesty turn-in at this location.  No question will be asked of the person turning in ammunition, nor will there be any record made of who turned in the ammunition amnesty.

The purpose of the Army’s ammunition amnesty program is to allow personnel to turn-in small arms ammunition (SAA) of .50 Caliber and below in their possession (found, forgotten, obtain under questionable conditions…), that they are not legally allowed to have.  The amnesty process gets the material back into the proper supply channels.  This does not apply to using organizations that have received an ammunition issue, but have not utilized the proper supply process to complete a normal turn-in.

During this ammunition amnesty day period, remember to keep the DoD’s 3R’s of UXO Recognize, Retreat and Report in mind!
