The White Sands Missile Range Garrison held a Housing Town Hall Aug. 13 to bring tenants up to date with the latest information.

Garrison Commander Col. Michael A. Lueckeman welcomed everyone to the meeting that included a pasta buffet provided by the Gary Sinise Foundation.

“I firmly believe this is the best hometown in the Army,” Lueckeman said. “It is very important for me to hear your perspective on what is going well and what is not going well. That is why it is so important for you to attend (this Housing Town Hall).”

Jennifer Dixon, Operations Director for Balfour Beatty WSMR Housing, kicked off the meeting by informing tenants that they need to inform the housing office if they will need an escort to enter their home when they put in their pest control requests.

She also informed tenants that work will be done at the Ravena Park, which will include installing an obstacle course style playground with expected completion date at the end of the calendar year. Repairs will also be carried out at the Jupiter Park playground and swing sets were taken down to be replaced.

Catherine Young with the New Mexico Department of Health also gave a brief on rabies. She started out by saying that bats transfer rabies via saliva. Anyone who comes in contact with a bat must seek medical care right away to receive post-exposure prophylaxis treatment, which is nearly 100 percent effective if started before symptoms.

Tenants were asked to call dispatch first when encountering an issue. All pets on post must be vaccinated against rabies.

Nino Bassaro, Director DFMWR, asked tenants to register for the “In the Know” program to keep up to date on events.

Upcoming events include Green Chile Festival and Dueling Pianos on Aug. 20; Parents Night Out on Aug. 20; Que Pasa on Sept. 17; Thanks Team WSMR on Sept. 17.

Pablo Chavarria, with the Commissary, said there will be a sidewalk sale on Sept. 17 with everything on sale 30 percent off or more.

The Chapel will host a Bazaar on Aug. 19 and a Summer Bash and Bowling on Aug. 19. The Chapel will also host the Sept. 11 memorial.
