Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Ready for Charging Up

White Sands Missile Range has completed the installation of several Electric Vehicle Charging Stations to charge up government issued electric vehicles on post.

Craig Collins, WSMR Installation Energy Manager, said the charging stations are located outside Building 102 and Building 1530. The charging stations are only available for government issued electric vehicles.

Back in 2023 the Army called on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville to provide acquisition services, contract management and technical expertise for installing electric vehicle charging stations at two sites on WSMR.

Collins said he knows of at least 24 electric vehicles that are being used on post that would benefit from the new charging stations.

Collins said the project was awarded in FY24 and construction was completed at the end of April 2026 with the help of special energy funding from the Resilient Energy Funding for Readiness and Modernization.

He said each location has two Level 3 fast chargers with two ports each that can fully charge a vehicle in 1 to 2 hours, and four Level 2 chargers with two ports each that can fully charge a vehicle in 8 hours.

Collins said employees who drive government issued electric vehicles can stop by his office to pick up a charging card.
