Bataan Memorial Death March Update

Dear Bataan Memorial Death March Participants,

With only a week remaining before the Bataan Memorial Death March, we are writing to provide you with an important update as you finalize your preparations. We are looking forward to welcoming you to this historic event.

The safety and well-being of our participants are our highest priorities. Current weather forecasts predict record-high temperatures on race day, with highs expected to reach the mid-90s. This is more than 20 degrees above the normal average for this time of year. In light of this, our leadership team is carefully evaluating potential adjustments to the event to ensure a safe and meaningful experience for everyone.

The WSMR leadership team are actively evaluating our options and will make a final

decision no later than early next week. However, we highly encourage all participants to begin preparing for the extreme heat immediately. Please focus on your hydration strategies, and consider adjusting your training, clothing, carried weight, and pacing to account for the projected temperatures.

Additionally, please be aware that White Sands Missile Range is an active military

installation under a heightened security posture. This may result in longer than usual wait times at our access gates. We strongly encourage you to allow for extra time for entry, both during packet pickup and on the morning of the event.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we work to ensure a safe and

successful event that properly honors the spirit and legacy of the Bataan Death March.
