Garrison Commander Colonel David A. Mitchell

Colonel David Mitchell is a native of Richmond, Virginia, but considers Georgia home.  He received his commission as a Transportation Officer through ROTC from Gannon University in 1999, and shortly thereafter, attended the officer basic course at Ft. Eustis, Virginia.

He attended the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he also completed his Masters in Supply Chain Management and Logistics from the University of Kansas.  He is also a graduate of the Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.

Colonel Mitchell has served at every level in the military, serving leadership positions at the tactical level in both the 3rd Infantry Division, where assigned as Platoon Leader, in the 703rd Main Support Battalion and in the 4th Infantry Division, serving as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 64th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Infantry Division from 2007-2009.  He later commanded the 840th Transportation Battalion (SDDC), Camp Arifijan, Kuwait.  Upon completion of command, he was selected to be the 10th Mountain Division ACofS G4, Fort Drum, New York.  In 2019, he served as the Deputy Division-Chief, Sustainment Maintenance Division HQDA G4.

His operational and strategic assignments consist of those at USARCENT, USTRANSCOM, USINDOPACOM, the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, and enterprise level at the Department of the Army.  He has deployed five times between both Iraq and Kuwait.

Among his awards and decorations are the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 SOLC, 1 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal(1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze Star), Iraq Campaign Medal (1 Silver Star & 1 Bronze Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Award, the Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Ancient Order of Saint Christopher Award (Transportation Corps).

COL Mitchell is married to Robyn of New Hampshire, and has a daughter, Hailey (25).
