Lieutenant Colonel Matt Bauer
Lieutenant Colonel Matt Bauer initially entered military service in 2003 as an enlisted Infantryman in the California Army National Guard. In 2006, Matt received his commission through ROTC as an active duty Infantry officer. He has served in various leadership positions within the 82nd Airborne Division and 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and has multiple deployments in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, UNIFIED RESPONSE, and INHERENT RESOLVE.
Prior to arriving at Fort Walker, LTC Bauer was assigned to Special Operations Command- Central (SOCCENT) at MacDill AFB, FL, where he served as a SOF Operations Officer and Executive Officer to the SOCCENT Commander.
LTC Bauer’s civilian education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of California, Riverside; a Master’s Degree in Defense Analysis (Irregular Warfare) with distinction from the Naval Postgraduate School; and a Master of Arts degree in Military History from Norwich University.
His major awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster. Additionally, he has earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Senior Parachutist’s Badge, the Ranger Tab, and the Special Forces Tab.
Born in Colorado, Matt was raised in San Bernardino, California. He is married with three children.
