Deputy Commanding Officer - Maneuver - Colonel John B. Mountford

Colonel John B. Mountford hails from DeSoto, Missouri and commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Field Artillery in June 1995 from the United States Military Academy at West Point.


Colonel Mountford has commanded at the Detachment, Battery, Battalion and Brigade levels. Most recently he commanded the 210th Field Artillery Brigade at Camp Casey, Republic of Korea.


His past assignments include: 3rd Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Field Artillery Brigade; 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery in direct support of 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division; 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery in direct support of the 172nd Brigade Combat Team; 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery in direct support of 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division; 210th Field Artillery Brigade attached to 2nd Infantry Division; 1st Infantry Division Headquarters; V Corps Headquarters; United States 8th Army Headquarter; Headquarters Department of the Army G-8; the Office of the Vice Chief of Staff Army; and, the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness.


His overseas assignments include Australia, Germany, and the Republic of Korea with multiple operational deployments in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.


COL Mountford holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership. He is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College, and the United Kingdom’s Higher Command and Staff Course. He was the Army War College Fellow at Yale’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs and a 2020-2021 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Seminar XXI Fellow.
