Col. Jason T. Woodward, Commander, 1st Aviation Brigade
Colonel Jason T. Woodward enlisted as an infantryman in 1994 and served in the 3rd United States Infantry (The Old Guard) prior to attending the United States Military Academy Preparatory School in 1998. He was commissioned as an Aviation Second Lieutenant in 2003 from the United States Military Academy.
Following completion of Basic Aviation Qualification Course and the AH-64D Advanced Qualification Course, he served as a scout and III/V platoon leader in 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry in Germany from 2005-2006. Upon promotion to captain, he served as a battalion logistics officer and attack reconnaissance company commander in the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division. Following company command, he served as the brigade logistics officer for the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division.
As a field grade officer, Col. Woodward served as the operations officer for the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion. Subsequently, he served as the operations and command post observer controller-trainer in Aviation Division, Operations Group. Joint Readiness Training Center, as well as the plans officer for the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk, Louisiana. He completed an Interagency Fellowship in the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Coordination, United States Department of Agriculture and wrote Special Doctrine in the Combined Arms Doctrine Directorate, Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, KS. Col. Woodward commanded 4th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, CO before serving as the Senior Aviation Trainer at the National Training Center.
Col. Woodward has deployed in support in Operations Iraqi Freedom (2007-2008, 2010), New Dawn (2010), Enduring Freedom (2014), and Inherent Resolve (2021). He is a graduate of the Aviation Officer Basic and Career Courses, the Command and General Staff College, and the United States Army War College.
His awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), the Air Medal (1 OLC, “C” Device), the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), the Valorous Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Citation (3 OLC), the Combat Action Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Master Aviator Badge, the Parachute Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
Col. Woodward and his wife Elizabeth have three children: Hudson (11), Parker (9), and Evelyn (8).
