2nd Battalion, 13th Aviation Regiment conducts Unmanned Aircraft Systems Advanced Individual Training and graduate-level aviation training to develop combat aviation leaders who are capable and ready to fight and win on any battlefield, now and into the future. Currently the battalion operates the largest UAS training center in the world and is located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
Each year, the 2-13th Aviation Regiment trains approximately 2,000 Soldiers across 12 distinct programs of instruction including: Tactical UAS Operator and Repairer; MQ-1C Gray Eagle UAS Operator and Repairer; UAS Instructor Operator Course; 150U UAS Warrant Officer Technician; UAS Resident Instructor Course; and the UAS Command and Staff Leaders Course.
The battalion is comprised of four companies: Alpha “Apex,” Bravo “Black Knights,” Charlie “Coyotes” and Delta “Dune Stalkers.”
Alpha Company “Apex,” serves as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company providing personnel, logistics, information technology, flight line maintenance, and emergency medical support to the battalion. The Company also conducts UAS Resident Instructor Training for permanent party cadre, UAS technician training for 150U warrant officers, UAS leadership training for command and staff leaders, common faculty development instructor course, and UAS instructor operator training for the United States Army. Alpha Company conducts most of its daily operations and training at Black Tower.
Bravo Company “Black Knights,” is responsible for providing relevant world class training for two MOS producing qualification courses: 15E Tactical UAS Repairer and 15W Tactical UAS Operator. The company also provides logistical and flight-line support to the graduate level Instructor Operator and Resident Instructor Training courses. Bravo Company conducts its maintenance training at Black Tower and conducts its flight operations at Rugge-Hamilton and Pioneer runways.
Charlie Company “Coyotes,” is responsible for providing two MOS producing qualification courses: 15C MQ-1 Operators and 15M MQ-1 Repairer. Charlie Company utilizes a combination of state-of-the-art simulators and live flight training to deliver competent and battle-focused operators. The Warriors coordinate and execute superb multi-faceted training focused on the developing mechanical and networking skills required by our future Gray Eagle repairers. Charlie Company conducts the majority of its training at Libby Army Airfield.
Delta Company “Dune Stalkers,” provides personnel management, administration, housing, and non-MOS-specific training support to Initial Entry and MOS-transitioning Soldiers to facilitate the generation of MOS-trained UAS operators and maintainers. Delta Company interfaces with outside organizations on a regular basis to ensure all available resources are utilized to ensure we achieve the highest level of training and morale among our student population. LTC Kent Monas was born in Waynesburg, PA and graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 2004. Upon completion of flight school as a Scout Pilot, Kent was assigned to D Troop, 1st Squadron 17th Cavalry, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. Command Sgt. Maj. Chasitie Lee
Command Sgt. Maj. Chasitie Lee is a native of New Brockton, Alabama. She enlisted in the United States Army as a Flight Operations Specialist in 2000. She attended basic combat training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and advanced individual training at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
