Command Sgt. Maj. Michael McAvoy, 1st Battalion, 13th Aviation Regiment

Command Sgt. Maj. Michael McAvoy is a native of Twin Falls, Idaho, and entered active military service August 29, 1995, as an apache attack helicopter crew chief.

McAvoy’s assignments include South Korea; Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Drum, New York; Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Bliss, Texas; and Fort Rucker, Alabama.

His military education includes: Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leader Course (Honor Graduate), Unit Armorer Course, Equal Opportunity Management Course, Air Deployment Planner Course, Unit Victim Advocate Course, Master Resilience Trainer Course, Volunteer Management Course, SERE (High Risk), First Sergeant/Commanders Course, and Sergeants Major Academy Graduate (Class 69), Instructor Developer Course, Pre-Command (Battalion) Course.

McAvoy is a veteran of five combat deployments. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with two Silver Oak Leaf Clusters and C device, Army Achievement Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Valorous Unit Award with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Unit Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal (Num. 8), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Star) Iraq Campaign Medal (3 Star), Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal (1 Star), Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Num. 7), NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Master Air Crewmember Badge and Driver/Mechanic Badge. He has also received the “Order of the Silver Spur” and the “Order of the Gold Spur”. McAvoy is an honorary member of the Order of Saint Michael (Aviation) and the Order of Saint Barbara (Field Artillery).
