Lt. Col. Chris Sood, Commander, 1-222d Aviation Regiment
LTC Chris Sood graduated and received his commission in December 2005 through the Army ROTC program at the University of Pittsburgh, PA. He then attended Flight School & AVOBC from 2006 to 2007; his first assignment was to Fort Drum, New York, where he served in 2-10th Aviation Regiment (AHB) as a Battalion AS3, Platoon Leader, Battle Captain, and Battalion S4, with deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Following this assignment, LTC Sood attended the Engineer Captains Career Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was subsequently assigned to the 128th Aviation Brigade, where he commanded F Company, 1-222d Aviation Regiment, served as the Battalion S3 for 1-222d Aviation Regiment, and commanded HHC, 128th Aviation Brigade. Following this assignment, LTC Sood attended the Naval Command & Staff College at Newport, Rhode Island.
Upon completion of Navy ILE, LTC Sood was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as the Battalion XO for 3-58th Aviation Regiment (AOB), Battalion XO for 3-82nd Aviation Regiment (GSAB), and the Commander of B Company, 122nd Aviation Support Battalion.
From 2020-2024, LTC Sood was assigned to Washington, D.C., in the Army Congressional Fellowship Program. He served in the United States Senate as a Military Advisor for Senator Lindsey Graham and in the Pentagon on the Army Staff as a Congressional Budget Liaison for the Army Budget Office and the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller.
LTC Sood earned a Bachelors’ Degree in Astrophysics from the University of Pittsburgh. He holds Master’s Degrees in Geological Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology; Defense and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College; and Legislative Affairs from George Washington University. He is a graduate of AVOBC, ENCCC, AMOC, and Naval ILE. His notable awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, the Army Staff Badge, and the Combat Action Badge.
LTC Sood resides in Toano, Virginia, with his wife Meredith; they have two children, a daughter, Maysen, and a son, Maxton.
