Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew D. Duerksen, 1st Battalion, 223d Aviation Regiment

Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew D. Duerksen is a native of Mancelona, Michigan. He enlisted in the Army in April 2002 as an aviation operations specialist. He completed basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia and advanced individual training at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Duerksen has served at every level of leadership from squad leader to command sergeant major. His assignments include Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Fort Drum, New York and Camp Humphreys, South Korea. He has deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Eastern Africa, and Eastern Europe.

Duerksen’s military education include the Aviation Operation Specialist Course, Warrior Leader Course, Advanced and Senior Leader Courses, Sergeants Major Academy Class 71, Joint Firepower Course, Airborne, Air Assault, SERE-C and multiple other survival courses.

Duerksen’s awards include a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medals with Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Accommodation with Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, and Good Conduct Medal Sixth Award.
