Lt. Col. April Kearney, Commander, 1st Battalion, 11th Aviation Regiment

Lt. Col. April Kearney is a graduate of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University ROTC Program and entered the United States Army on October 23, 2003.

Kearney’s assignments include XO, D Co., 2nd Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade; platoon leader, B Co., 2nd Battalion, 10th CAB; Warrior Transition Battalion S3, 10th ID; commander, D Co., 4th Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, which re-flagged to D Co., 1-229th Aviation Regiment; commander, D Co., 4th Battalion, 3rd CAB. Following this command, she instructed at the Basic Officer Leader Course and the Captain Career Course at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Upon graduation from the Command and General Staff College, Kearney worked in the CJ4 shop at the Resolute Support Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan. Following this assignment, she took command of B Co., 96th Aviation Support Battalion, 101st CAB, followed by 101st CAB XO for the 2018-2019 deployment to Afghanistan. Since 2019, Kearney worked in the Aviation Center Logistics Command at Fort Rucker as the S3 and then as a UH72 program maintenance officer.

Kearney’s military and civilian education includes Initial Entry Rotary Wing Aviator Course, OH-58 A/C and UH-60A/L/M Qualification Courses; Aviation Maintenance Management/Maintenance Leader Course and UH60L Maintenance Test Pilot Course; Aviation Officers’ Captain Career Course; Command and General Staff Course, a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and a Master of Aeronautical Studies in Safety and Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Kearney’s awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
