Lt. Col. John Venezia, Department of Aviation Medicine
Lt. Col. John Venezia is a board-certified aerospace and occupational medicine physician with substantial experience in graduate medical education and training.
He is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and earned his commission in the Medical Corps through the F. Edward Hebert Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program in 2002.
Venezia earned his doctorate in osteopathic medicine from Nova Southeastern University in 2006, a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2010; a Master of Arts in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Louisiana Tech University in 1995; and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University 1992.
He has served as associate program director for occupational medicine, program director for aerospace medicine and currently serves as director of graduate medicine education at Fort Novosel, Alabama. He has deployed as the brigade flight surgeon of Task Force ODIN-E (Observe, Detect, Identify and Neutralize - Enhanced) in Afghanistan in 2013. His duty assignments include Fort Bliss, Texas; Galveston, Texas; Pensacola, Florida; and Fort Rucker; with a combat deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Venezia’s awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal x2, Army Commendation Medal x2 and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He has earned the Master Flight Surgeon and Army Space Badge. He was the recipient of the 2014 Aerospace Medicine Specialist of the Year by the Society of U.S. Army Flight Surgeons, 2017 Iron Major, 2019 Association of Military Surgeons of the United States (AMSUS) Program Training and Education Award, is a fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association and in 2022 was awarded the Order of St. Michael by the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA).
