Command Sgt. Maj. Nicholas Burney, Air Traffic Services Command
Command Sgt. Maj. Nicholas Burney hails from Osceola, Missouri and enlisted in the United States Army in September 1998. He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He then graduated from Fort Eustis, Virginia as a 67R, AH-64 Apache Maintainer.
CSM Burney has served proudly for the past 26 years. His assignments include: 1-227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cav Brigade, Fort Cavazos, Texas; 1-2 Aviation Regiment, 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, Camp Page and Camp Eagle, South Korea; 1-101st Aviation Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; 128th Aviation Brigade Fort Eustis, Virginia; AMCOM Combined Logistics Command (ACLC) at Fort Novosel, Alabama, the Battalion Command Sergeant Major of 1-1 Attack Battalion at Fort Riley Kansas; and most recently he was the Aviation Center of Excellence G3 SGM. He has multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
CSM Burney has performed numerous duty positions during his career to include; AH-64D Crew Chief, Squad Leader/Maintenance Sergeant, Technical Inspector, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Platoon Sergeant, Senior Instructor/Writer, S-3 Register NCOIC. His military education includes: Air Assault School, Senior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, and Basic Leaders Course. Cadre Training Course, Basic Instructor Training Course, And the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 69). CSM Burney holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Ashford University.
CSM Burney’s awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal (3 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (6 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 CS), Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 CS), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (5th Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (6th Award), NATO Medal (3rd Award), Combat Action Badge, Master Aviation Badge, Air Assault Badge, Drivers Badge. The Honorable Order of St. Michael (Bronze) from the Army Aviation Association of America as well the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara from the United States Field Artillery Association.
He is married to Tara Burney from Palestine, Texas and is the proud father of Nicholas and Madison.
