Sgt. Maj. Carlos J. Silva, 1-58th Airfield Operations Battalion

Sergeant Major Carlos J. Silva Lind is from Naguabo, Puerto Rico. He enlisted in the Puerto Rico National Guard in August 1995 as a 63B (Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic). He completed Basic Training and AIT at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. In February 1998, he transitioned into regular active-duty service and changed his MOS to 94F (Automation Systems Repairer) in 2003.

SGM Silva’s leadership positions include AIT Platoon Sergeant, Fort Gordon, GA; Electronic Maintenance Supervisor, 251st Signal Detachment / 41st Signal Battalion, Yongsan, Republic of South Korea; First Sergeant and Electronic Maintenance Supervisor, HHC, 63rd ESB, Fort Stewart, GA; First Sergeant, Fox Company, and HHB 6-52 ADA, Suwon, Republic of South Korea; Operations Sergeant Major, 6-52 ADA Battalion, Suwon, Republic of South Korea; Ordnance Electronic Maintenance Training Department (OEMTD) Sergeant Major, Fort Gordon, GA; First Sergeant, Ordnance Training Detachment-Gordon (OTD-G); Currently SGM Silva is serving as the Maintenance Readiness Division SGM for the Air Traffic Services Command, Fort Novosel Alabama. He has two deployments: Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003) and Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom 2009-10). 

SGM Silva’s military education includes Class 73, Sergeants Major Course; Cadre Training Course; Company Commanders and First Sergeant Course; Basic Leaders Course; Advanced Leaders Course; Senior Leaders Course; Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education Level 1 and 2; Demonstrated Senior Logistician; SHARP Course; MRT Trainer; AIT Platoon Sergeant; EO Leader Course; Total Army Instructor Training; Unit Prevention Leader Course; Systems Approach to Training Course and Combatives Level 1. SGM Silva has an Associate Degree in Administration Management Studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Excelsior University. He’s five classes short of finishing a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Leadership.

SGM Silva is married to his wife, Wantana, and has three children: Eric, Destiny, and Jordan.
