Robert C. Doerer, Deputy to the Commanding General

On July 14, 2024, Robert C. Doerer was appointed as the Deputy to the Commanding General of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Novosel, Alabama. Previously, he was the Director of the Organization and Personnel Force Development Directorate, where he was responsible for the development, evaluation, review, and assessment of Army Aviation force structure requirements, as well as overseeing the aviation personnel proponent office, managing the eight Personnel Life Cycle Management Functions for the Aviation Officer, Warrant Officer and Enlisted Corps.

A retired U.S. Army Aviator, Doerer held leadership roles with the 3rd Armored Division, 3rd Infantry Division, 1st Armored Division, and V Corps. His deployments include serving as the 3AD Aviation Brigade Headquarters Company Commander during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, the 3ID Aviation Brigade Operations Officer for SFOR 8 (Bosnia-Herzegovina), the 1-501st Attack Battalion Commander during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade Commander supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Other significant assignments include serving as an Observer-Controller at the National Training Center, Aide-de-Camp for the Commanding General of Aviation and Troop Command, Staff Officer for the Director of the Army Staff, and several key roles within the Human Resources Command, to include Aviation Branch Chief and Director, Officer Personnel Management Directorate. He concluded his military career at Fort Novosel, then Fort Rucker, as the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff for the USAACE Commanding General.

Doerer graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a degree in computer science and holds master’s degrees from the University of Central Michigan and the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.

His awards and decorations include the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster and two bronze oak leaf clusters, Air Medal Numeral two, Army Commendation Medals with one silver oak leaf cluster, and Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster. He has also been awarded the Combat Action Badge, Senior Aviator Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Department of the Army Staff Badge.

Mr. Doerer is married to the former Tammy Williams of Jacksonville, FL. They have two children.
