Maj. Gen. Clair A. Gill, Commanding General, USAACE and Fort Novosel

Clair Gill was commissioned in Army Aviation from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1994. After duty as a platoon leader in Seoul, Korea, he served as a Troop XO in Stetson Troop, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Fort Carson, CO, followed by duty as aide-de-camp to the DCG, Army Aviation Center (later CG, Army Safety Center). In 2000, MG Gill commanded an Assault Helicopter Company (Blackwidows) in 9th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, KY.
From 2002-2006, MG Gill was assigned to Flight Concepts Division, where he served as a Troop Commander. He then served three years on the Joint Reconnaissance Task Force, Joint Special Operations Command. Then he returned to Flight Concepts Division as the Deputy Commander.
In 2012, MG Gill returned to the 101st Airborne Division where he commanded 4th Battalion (Assault), 101st Aviation Regiment for three years. He deployed the battalion to FOB Shank (Logar, Afghanistan) in 2014, supporting combat operations throughout Regional Command – East. In 2016, MG Gill commanded the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, simultaneously deploying the unit to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Korea, and Europe. After serving as Executive Officer to the Under Secretary of the Army, MG Gill returned a third time to the 101st as Deputy Commanding General (Support) for two years.
In 2021, MG Gill served as Director, Army Aviation on the HQDA staff for one year, followed by his most recent two-year assignment as Deputy Director for Regional Operations and Force Management (J35) on the Joint Staff.
MG Gill graduated the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (CGSC/ILE) in 2007. He completed a Senior Service College fellowship at the Central Intelligence Agency in 2016. He is a Master Army Aviator (3400 flight hours) with over four years in combat.
MG Gill’s wife, Fran, is an Army (Aviation) Veteran, who currently serves as an Emergency Room Physician. They are proud parents of their son, Joshua, who is the captain of the Yorktown HS men’s top varsity 8 crew team.
