Command Sgt. Maj. Jose M. Perez Jr., Commandant, NCOA Fort Novosel

Command Sgt. Maj. Jose M. Perez Jr. is a native of Key West, Florida. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1995 as an aviation operations specialist. He completed basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and 15P Advanced Individual Training at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Perez has served in every leadership position from squad leader to brigade command sergeant major. His stateside assignments include Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Fort Huachuca, Arizona; Fort Jackson; Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Rucker; Fort Wainwright, Alaska; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Hood, Texas; and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. His overseas assignments include Germany and Alaska. He has deployed to Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan for peacekeeping and combat operations.

Perez’s Military education consist of the Aviation Operations Specialist Course, the Warrior Leaders Course, the Advance Leaders Course, the Senior Leaders Course, Drill Sergeant School, Air Assault School, the Aviation Life Support Equipment Course, the Joint Fire Power Course, Master Resilience Trainer course, the First Sergeant course and USASMA Class 64. His civilian education includes a high school diploma.

Perez’s military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal Eighth Award, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral Four, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral Three, the NATO Medal, Aviation Badge, the Combat Action Badge, the Drill Sergeant Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and the Silver German Schutzenschnur.
