Col. Joshua R. Ruisanchez, Deputy Commanding Officer, Aviation Branch

Colonel Joshua R. Ruisánchez, a native of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, enlisted as an Infantryman in the Florida National Guard. He received his commission as a Distinguished Military Graduate as an Aviation Officer from the University of Central Florida in May 1999. He then went on to serve as a Flight Platoon Leader and Executive Officer of Charlie Company, 2-2 Aviation Regiment in Camp Stanley, South Korea.

In 2003, COL Ruisánchez served as the 3/5 Platoon Leader and later as the Executive Officer of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Aviation Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Hunter Army Airfield, GA. He forward deployed to Kuwait and onto Iraq as a part of the initial push into Baghadad. From 2004-2008, COL Ruisánchez served as a Company Commander, Battalion S-3, Brigade S-1, Secretary of the General Staff and Executive Officer to the Deputy Commanding General at the United States Army Aviation War Fighting Center, Fort Rucker, AL.

In 2010, COL Ruisánchez served with Task Force 1-6 Cavalry Regiment as the Squadron Executive Officer. He forward deployed to Iraq as a part of the enhanced Combat Aviation Brigade where he oversaw operations in AR-North. Subsequently, he served as the Task Force 3-1 Assault Helicopter Battalion Operations Officer in Balad, Iraq. He concluded his tenure with the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade as the Brigade Operations Officer.

For three years, COL Ruisánchez served as the Deputy Chief for Presidential Operations at the White House Military Office in Washington, DC. From 2016-2018, he commanded the 2-10 Assault Helicopter Battalion (Knighthawks) and deployed the unit to EUCOM in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve. Upon relinquishing command, COL Ruisánchez attended the Naval War College in Rhode Island where he earned his Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. From 2019-2021, COL Ruisanchez served as the OPMD Aviation Branch Chief at the Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, KY, and from 2021-2023, COL Ruisanchez commanded the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Carson, CO.  Currently COL Ruisánchez is   serving as the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence Deputy Commanding Officer and Fort Novosel Deputy Commander at Fort Novosel, AL.

COL Ruisánchez’ military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), Army Reserve Component Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Service Medal (4 Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Master Army Aviator Badge, and the Presidential Service Badge. He is also a recipient of the Silver Order of Saint Michael.

COL Ruisanchez is married to the former Anita Jones from Sacramento, CA and have three children.
