DOD Alert issued 11 January 2023:

Due to rising Salinas River levels, Garrison personnel residing north of the Salinas River using Highway 68 or Highway 1 for their commute are directed to telework or exercise liberal leave in accordance with agency policy starting Thursday, January 12th until otherwise directed. DLI personnel, please coordinate with your supervisor to telework, teach virtually, or exercise liberal leave. Other PoM tenant unit members, please contact your supervisor for additional guidance.

As of 11Jan, county authorities are expecting Salinas River levels to rise and forecasting a possible closure of Highway 68 at the Salinas River bridge as early as 1200hrs on Thursday 12 Jan 23 (condition dependent). If the Salinas river continues to rise, Monterey County emergency managers MAY also close Highway 1 at the Salinas River crossing, effectively isolating the Monterey peninsula for the next few days.

Additionally, Monterey County has included multiple communities along the Salinas River in their most recent evacuation order. Additional rain is forecasted over the next week, and we expect evacuation warning orders and warnings along low lying areas and along rivers to continue. We care about your safety so please take these evacuation warnings and orders seriously.
